Sure, the opposition uses your history against you in politics. However, this has historically been a PR thing NOT weaponising the legal system and DOJ against your opponent. Trump's tax dodging goes under the radar if he doesn't win the Presidency? FFS virtually nothing about Trump has went under the radar for decades. I'm gonna say he's probably been subject to more IRS audits than just about anyone in US history. The guy has been investigated to the nth degree on everything.I dont get the right wing outrage at politically motivated prosicutions.
At the same time they're tying themselves in knots trying to convict the presidents son and impeach the president.
If you want to be POTUS, you've got to be squeaky clean or expect the opposition to use your history against you.
If Trump doesn't win the presidency, his tax dodging and bank fraud likely goes under the DA's radar as the city would prioritize the tax take over a lengthy and expensive legal battle.
I'm not saying it's right, it's just the way it's always been here.
And for the SCOTUS to throw out any conviction, I presume they'd have to establish a precedent that any former POTUS has immunity. I doubt even they would do that.
I have no idea whether SCOTUS will side with Trump on the Presidential immunity case. I am suggesting future cases brought by Trump to SCOTUS will give him either full or partial victories.
Is it correct for 'right wingers' to attempt to convict the President's son and impeach Joe Biden? I dunno. However, mutually assured destruction is a reasonable tactic to employ. You try to imprison one of ours, we try the same to one of yours. However, Dems have gamed the system in their own favour for now. I have my own thoughts on how Repubs can best target Dem politicians, but tbh it's not a tactic I'm comfortable with.
