Equally serious is that he is hopelessly unelectable in his own state - hence his initially far-fetched bid for President in the first place. And while there's no shortage of well-paid national-level sinecures that he might fill (Chairman of the DNC, for instance), there aren't many which offer the gravitas or the exposure that aspiring Presidential candidates tend to require.

You mean the same state that elected our Homophobe in Chief, Mike Pence as their governor? I probably wouldn’t lose too much sleep over that one if I were Pete.

What change is Sanders wanting ?

Last time I checked the US was doing pretty well.

Unemployment rates amongst all are low, the stock market and economy is doing well, trade deals look good, tax system appears we'll received etc.
Try getting sick here sometime. Hope you’re either lucky enough to either have a job that provides you with great insurance, or are rich. Even then, financial ruin might not be far around the corner if you have a serious, long term health issue.

Fine.

But the well-worn simple straight-talkin' corn-fed country folk routine is most of his sales pitch.

He'll look even more ridiculous (to ordinary voters, not to say liberals) attempting chestnuts like this after parachuting in to the Brookings Institution or some gerrymandered district in Virginia.

I mean... on the basis of one largely unsuccessful stint as collegetown mayor, he literally presumed to lecture the field on the Midwest during the debates (fresh from McKinnsey and a whirlwind Troop-cosplay photo op), when half the stage has a better shot of winning his own state than he does.

To win American elections, you need to either A) turn out more of your voters than they do B) recruit non-voters or C) get some of the other lot to vote for you.

Buttigieg does neither, while also actively antagonising the very constituencies on whom the Democrats most depend.

I certainly don’t disagree with you that Buttigieg faces some significant challenges in winning a national election. Was just pointing out that not being particularly electable in Indiana doesn’t necessarily say all that much. Also, given that he is only 38 and found his way into the top 5 Democratic candidates this cycle, I think it might be a little premature to call his political career over and done.

Yes, that's true - I was responding initially to a post claiming he was a certainty for the nomination in 2024.

Pete 2060!

That was a brilliant performance by Public Enemy at Bernie rally. I’m so glad they got rid of flavour flav and it was all down to Bernie. What a man.

So I read that 68000 American die a year from lack of healthcare coverage. They started two wars post 9/11 and cause carnage and mayhem. Spending trillions and trillions on military and Took away privacy etc. Cause 2000+ died. Not 68000.

If they responded to this medical care crises with 5% of the energy and resources to 911 America would be a paradise of health care.

I'm aware of the issues relating to healthcare, however is this going to be sorted by Sanders belief of allowing everyone in ? Or will it simply contribute to the healthcare system continuing to decline.

I think the healthcare system here in Australia is probably one of the best in the world. Great care is really able to be provided to all, regardless of income etc.

However we don't face the same issues the US does both in relation to immigration, but also internationally in terms of diplomacy.

Was the concerns of healthcare addressed by Obamacare ? If not, and it still isn't then what's Sanders going to do to make this change ?
