So it looks like Bernie is going to win Iowa (and possibly all of the first 3 states).

I really like him, and for the most part his policies (with the exception of his pretty weak position on guns), but I won’t lie, the thought of him in the General really does worry me.

Also find it weird the way (despite what you’d think from listening to some of his online supporters) he’s the only one of the front runners/surgers who hasn’t really had to deal with any attacks (particularly on policy) during the debates. Biden, Warren, Buttigieg have all had to deal with serious questions.

I just really worry that he’s gonna get absolutely killed with the “Socialist” label in the General. I mean Trump is going to call whoever the nominee is a Socialist, but it’ll be much easier to make it stick with someone who actually uses it for themselves.

Hard not to draw parallels with Corbyn too... and we saw how that worked out. Though admittedly Bernie is an infinitely better politician (not that that’s a tough mark to beat)

Sanders is also significantly more moderate in most regards than Corbyn and lacks his stupidity/malice/bad luck (delete as applicable) when it comes to knocking about with paramilitaries.

He’s more moderate in absolute terms, but not necessarily compared to the respective country. “Centre” for the US is WAY further Right than Centre is in the U.K.

Surprise surprise, Warren supporters reveal themselves to be sanest Dem/Dem-adjacent voters. (Not actually a surprise.)

He's the only candidate who actually wears that label with pride. Hard to attack him with it when he's already owned it a hundred times over
Except he hasn't been attacked yet. For all the cries of a "rigged" primary last time and a "media blackout" this time, Sanders has undergone very little scrutiny and the GOP has been holding off on blasting him in the hopes he'll get the Dem nomination, because they believe him to be the easiest contender to beat. Trump's gone so far as trying to convince foreign states to dig up or invent dirt on Biden. By contrast, he's referred to Sanders as "Crazy Bernie" while also claiming the Dems are treating him "very unfairly." They're hoping Sanders gets the nod and then they can unload the deluge of oppo research they've been collecting on him since 2016.

And if by chance Sanders were able to win the presidency, I assume his administration would generate as much divisiveness as Trump's, but with even fewer successes than the largely failed incumbent.

And of course, if Sanders gets the nom I'll be voting for him even though I think he's a complete stiff with zero practical sense of how he'd get to where he wants to go, policywise, beyond dubious references to "people filling the streets demanding their government back."

Is it though? The word itself is so ridiculously loaded with negative connotations for so many in the US (even though they live in a country with plenty of "socialist" policies, if less than some other countries) that I worry a good % of people will just run screaming in the opposite direction.

not hard at all.
He's never come up against anything like the scrutiny and criticism that he'll face if nominated.
Look how Corbyn crumbled in the UK, Sanders is a crazy wild card to play especially when there's a safer progressive option.
