The have reduced the deficit. Any reason why you think Corbyn, Abbott and co. can negotiate our EU extraction and set up free trade agreements around the world ?

This really. Its a shame in a way, but this election is only about that. Parties can make all the promises they want, but if the Brexit agreement is poor, then they dont really matter.

As a leader, May makes me wildly underwhelmed, but as a person who can get a team together to get a good deal, I have some hope she can do that. With Corbyn, well, I have taken my stance at the wicket on that.

There are too many people on here fighting the wrong argument. But they will never see it.......

I know. Its understandable, but if the Labour Party had the sort of heavy weights they had not that long ago, (Johnson, Brown, Cook, et al,) I would have no worries about them cooking a decent deal. This lot, less so.

Even now Brown would be Ok to have on a UK team rather than Hammond....

Yep. We do seem to have a pygmy level of senior politicians of every hue atm.

If we could put a delegation of, say, the 12 best to face up to the EU, think we would struggle.

I'm not at all sure about David Davis, he's pretty good placating MP's in the commons but he doesn't have that 'edge' for me........Michael Gove is a bit of a two faced backstabbery type, but he's tough, intelligent and on the UK's side.....

No wonder May has returned to her bunker. She has too many question to answer about her time as Home Secretary and what she knew, and did, about the Libyan exiles in this country. They were openly encouraged to come to this country due to their opposition to Gadaffi. After 7/7 and a u turn in British policy towards Libya, they were put under surveillance and had restricted movements. That changed in 2011 when restrictions were lifted to allow them to travel back to Libya to partake in the movement to get rid of Gadaffi.

There should be an inquiry into the role successive governments have played in the affairs of Libya and the movements of exiled Libyans.

I wonder when May's husband's business dealings are going to be highlighted by the media.

The Tories social care plans would have for the first time have costed those living at home to be liable to pay for their care. Those with house would have had to sell their house to pay for their care or raise money through an Equity release scheme. Legal and General bought New life in 2015 as an opportunity to make money. Capital Group owns 8% of Legal and General which would have made a nice profit from their shares. It must be a coincidence that Philip May works for Capital Group.

Johnson and Brown would have been terrible negotiators, Brown especially. Cook would probably have wound the rest of the EU up by demonstrating how intellectually superior he was to them.

There really isn't any post-war British politician you could turn to in this situation to fix things, its too big a mess.

Best just give in then and surrender........

If anyone thinks that May is capable of leading a team to negotiate with the EU, should look no further than the absolute pickle they have gotten in since their budget. With u turn, after u turn, after u turn, chaage of mind after change of mind. May, will go to Europe, 'negotiate' something but by the time she is back in England will have phoned whoever in the EU and say she's changed her mind. A complete incompetent out of her depth.

No wonder the Murdoch Times have to use tabloid journalism and quote a Tory MP's distasteful remarks about those in the Tory party who thought up the social care policy. He reckons they should be 'taken out and shot', What a disgusting and inappropriate thing to say.

How so? It's a centuries old idiom.

May will not be negotiating, in the same way I suggested getting Brown on board, he would not be a negotiator. They just need to be the backstop. The EU will have the EU council and we need a robust and clear thinking oversight group.....
