Labour is facing wipe-out, latest polls giving the Conservatives a 170 overall majority. Got to be down to the cretin Corbyn, the despicable Dianne Abbott and the Das Capital lover McDonnell, a Hannibal Lecter look-alike.

No chance of a 170 majority. That would need Labour to be on about 160 seats. Majority will be more like 70 seats. It will be a big big win but not crazy big.

What miffs me somewhat, tad, is that those who write those kind of articles claim to have the whole shakedown on why things went the way they did, and why people voted the way they did. It seems to me rather crass in the extreme...

What miffs me somewhat, old, is that when people research and write these kind of articles, they are dismissed by people who 'got the result they wanted'. It's not about that, it's more how democracy (as we know it) can be manipulated in a way that, currently, isn't legislated for?

Fair enough, but I honestly don't see such high-level shenanigans actually influences the ordinary Joe in the street to any extent, one might say great extent.

We've seen media manipulation from the BBC (for example) in recent years with regard to the absolute slating of Corbyn and the Labour Party, and also the biased championing of the 'Remain' cause in the Referendum last year. That, however, is quite blatant - not subtle at all...

The way opinion of the 'ordinary joe' can be swayed via the likes of facebook would take multiple a4 sides, that I'm sure you or I couldn't be bothered writing.
It was interesting though, that you mentioned the BBC as being manipulative, considering they are meant to be impartial commentators. If the beeb and tabloid/broadsheets aren't averse to a bit of propaganda, then who knows what goes on? Maybe that article is onto something?

Yeah, the BBC are allegedly supposed to be impartial commentators, but the likes of Laura Kuenssberg and Norman Smith give lie to that contention.

I simply believe we, as individuals, have to weigh everything up and arrive at our own conclusions. The media has always bombarded us with its own propaganda-slanted news and views, as you say.

You mean pre-determined?
Something like that. All of our decisions and actions are influenced by a multitude of factors that cause us to make that particular decision. This is just a subtle but equally bold way of influencing us. Technically not illegal or even uncommon. It just feels wrong.

Individuals making our own conclusions.. Utopia. All we need now is a balanced curriculum, so that pupils get taught about gov't, politics and economics.

My, my, I do detect a hint of sarcasm. Can't you just discuss something normally...

It's something a bit more 'Matrix' than 'Saatchi and Saatchi'.

No mate, no sarcasm intended.
We were discussing how people can be swayed into voting for one point of view or the other. We talked about 'media manipulation' and how it affects peoples decisions. You said "I simply believe we, as individuals, have to weigh everything up and arrive at our own conclusions". I agree with that sentiment but, I believe there is a vacuum in political education in this country, that if corrected, might help negate the things that were discussed in the article we've been debating about?
