Just watched the Newcastle game. Our defence is seriously lacking something- we need someone to dominate in the air, Jags can tackle and Distin can shift over the park but we need someone who can deal with these balls in the box.

I have always like Michael Dawson- I don't think I've ever seen him lose a header and is a decent defender- on my opinion would do us right at the moment. Think you would see Howard improve too.

Strange because when teams have lofted hoof balls at our defense we have looked very shaky indeed. As you said especially that Newcastle game. Yet playing against the specialists (stoke) we handled it very well that day. Wonder if its a bit of bad prep by teams supprising us by playing that way?

Don't seem to get much rest bite our defense tho...even whilst we'v been dominant in so many games, we don't put teams to bed which perhaps leaves our defense always nervous of conceding an equaliser

Lescott was absolutely incredible in the air

Never thought I'd say this, but I also would've Lescott back. Will never really take to him again, but look at it in the best interest of Everton. He is a mercenary, use him like he uses us. As long as he does the job for us, I'm satisfied. Don't expect loyalty towards him though.

Groningen defender Virgil van Dijk claims Premier League outfit Everton have expressed an interest in acquiring his services.

The 21-year-old says a number of sides are closely monitoring his situation now that the winter transfer window has opened for business.

The chance to make a move to England could be put to Van Dijk, and he admits to being intrigued by the opportunity.

He is, however, taking nothing for granted and will remain focused on life at Groningen until he is informed that a switch elsewhere has been sanctioned.

"I know certain clubs are following me and that Everton are one of them," Van Dijk told Voetbal International.

"I have heard and read a lot about it and after the winter training camp I will sit down with my agent Henk-Maarten Chin and catch up with where we stand.

"Of course I am flattered by the interest, but I have to make sure I make the best choice for my future career."

Groningen, meanwhile, claim they have no intention of selling during the January window.

General director Hans Nijland said: "I don't expect Virgil to leave. No clubs have made official contact with us regarding a possible deal and therefore we don't need to talk about it."
Seems like a bit of a dick to me.
