2013 January Transfer Window Thread

Osman is having a good season, do you really believe he could be replace for 3 million, what moyes is saying he wants quality, he could get another phil neville for around 3 million but what the point, and the club might not want to sell till next summer which is the case in most transfers unless you pay over the odds which we cannot do. The problem right now is our board not finding enough money for quality players.

I don't think Newcastle have paid over the odds at all, and I think they have purchased a number of midfielders who are likely to be streets ahead of the likes of Neville and Osman.

3.5 million wouldn't get you 'another Neville', it would get you a younger, fitter and ultimately superior midfielder like Diame, or Sissoko. How much did Nzonzi go for? It wouldn't have been for much more than that.

Osman's performances have been overhyped in the extreme, and he is as equally as shocking as Neville when they are paired together.

The advantage of Stephen Naismith is that in premiership standards he cost nothing.
David Moyes also appears to disagree with the opinon of most on here as he continues to play Naismith ahead of Oviedo,Gueye and Barkley. But then, what does he know ?

He cost a signing on fee and wages that could have gone elsewhere. Moyes is playing him because Mirallas has been out. I think even he realises the mistake by now.

How about just replacing one inferior player with a superior one?

It's laughable to start talking about only wanting to sign 'genuine quality' whilst your central midfield is being 'controlled' by the likes of Neville and Osman.

There will be plenty of transfers this January involving players who are far better than Neville and Osman, and they don't all move for obscene prices.

tbf fellaini and Gibson should be the 2 starting in the middle so I don't think we need another cm that desperately.

Really?

Perhaps you could tell me how many times either of them have played in central midfield this season, then you could tell us how many times they have been paired together?

Anyone who can't see our dire need for a decent central midfielder must be blind, IMO. The difference that Gibson (not Fellaini) makes to our central midfield and all-round play should demonstrate this. But unfortunately, Gibson is injured more often than not, and we are left to contend with the midfield powerhouse pairing of Neville and Osman.

Dont know much about Diame or Sissko to be honest.

Well if the reports I've read are correct, then Sissoko went for circa 2million, and Diame is supposedly available at 3.5million.

It's just laughable to think that any player that is better than Neville or Osman will come with an obscene transfer fee. In a way, you're effectively valuing the likes of Neville and Osman at over 3million pounds. Well that's how much Neville cost about 8 years ago when he wasn't approaching retirement age!

The true value of the likes of Neville is about 500,000 pounds, which is the amount Harry Redknapp bid for him, 2 years ago!!!

if we wanted diame, we would have gone for him in the summer when he was free. If i remember rightly, we looked at him but passed on him because of his knees or something. lets be honest here, how many games has he actually played? he's been as influentual as gibson is to us, but what would be the point in buying an injury prone player to compete with a similar injury prone player. i don't think hitz is the worse replacement, he should definitely be starting ahead of neville atm.

I think when Gibson is injured we really miss him in the middle of the park, because the other players in there are not natural ball winners. Neville was, about 5 years ago, but he doesn't have the legs now. We really need a player in there who is going to get the ball and dominate the opposition. I think Diame would be a decent option. If not him then I don't really know who else is out there and available within our price range. Which probably means some sort of last minute loan signing, at best.

Well that sounds promising by moyes.

I don't think we will go for a CM. more likely to be going for Landon or someone simlar than can play a few posistions at the top end and wide. Which then of course means he has the option to drop Fellaini back.

Those comments from Moyes are definitely sexy. He seems coy and confident that we will pull off a good signing. I can only hope it's one of those Rafael Van der Vaart-esque signings.
Ideally i'd like 3 players; a winger, centre mid and striker. That's not going to happen though so a player in any of those positions would be nice. Prefs on the centre mid.
