Of course if we won every game 3-2 itd be a brilliant season both from ours and the entertainment perspective, but defensive solidity should be the ambition of any great team, otherwise you leave yourself open to (bad) luck: you can utterly dominate a game but due to defensive errors can throw away points (see Newcastle, Norwich, Arsenal and possibly Chelsea at home as well as Fulham, Reading, Stoke away). With the investment we'd need to correct it - a top class centre half, top class goalkeeper - wed better just forget about it, really.

Meh, overated, who's winning the premier league atm at a canter?the team who conceded 3 against reading within half an hour

I think it's a bit of a quirk of fate at the moment, couldn't say we are defending badly, just mistakes are being punished and most times conceding 1 a game.

Yes but all of those teams listed we failed to beat because we conceded to many goals or failed to score enough

Do people on here really think our lack of clean sheets and genreal bad defending isnt a concern going into the last 5 months of the season, Becasue I think the will cost us points as they already have

Completely agree. I don't want to be all doom and gloom but bad defending could be the difference between top 4 and not top 4

Completely correct there....though to be fair the most common reasons for failing to win games is that one doesn't score enough or concedes too many goals.

However, although we haven't conceded a whole load of goals we have conceded a few that were disappointing and against the run of play. It's those that are costing us the points and if we can't stop conceding the odd careless goal then we have got to make our possession count and take more of the chances that we create. Until recently I think we had had more shots on goal than any other PL side but they aren't going in the net so end up counting for nothing. If sheer effort and heart got you points then we might win the league but sadly it's goals that count.

I just think that's the way the league is going at the moment not many teams at all are keeping clean sheets this season, as long as we are winning games i don't mind.

We have conceded some sloppy goals but saying that our goals per chances ratio is not that good. Some of these games should of been dead and buried on our chances alone. Man Utd have conceded more than us home and away but they convert there chances. Tottenham have also conceded more. I think we are more open to concede with our new found attacking play rather than the previous defensive stance we used to take. Saying that some of defensive play has been shoddy and unnecessary goals conceded. If Jelavic was on form plenty of these drawn games would have been won. Either we need to be more clinical or sit back a bit more but I wouldn't swap the way we are playing now compared to the way we used to set up.

Precisely.(y)

Maybe those guys who ran that Everton transfer clock could update with this?

Instead of time since we last signed a player, time since we last conceded.
