Starting to get a bit worried about our transfer policy. I don't see Sigurdsson solving any of the problems we have with creativity in the final third. He's basically a set-piece specialist, which for £50m seems shocking.
And I don't see us being linked with any players that are genuinely going to help us improve from last year. Defensively we've made a couple of strong signings in Pickford and Keane but our midfield and striking options have gone backwards.
I can understand some concerns about attack, as we have lost Romelu and not yet replaced him, but we have lost Valencia and brought in Sandro, which is an upgrade.
we have not sold any midfielders (yet) and have added some quality to it.
Rooney is unknown in that we don't know what he will bring or exactly where he will play, but he is considerably better than anything we have sold, in any position we choose to play him, except for central striker.
The situation is not as desperate as being made out, although I would like to see a striker that can hold up play and link in midfielders breaking forward - and being honest - Lukaku could not do that! Siggy brings a degree of dead ball skill we have been missing for ages, plus hard working and a very decent player.
The night is always darkest before dawn.
