Europa Cup = Domestic Burn Out?

Was there money involved? If there was did it buy the players necessary to play in Europa Cup? With all the injuries was there something changed in the training approach that may have contributed to the rash of injuries? Not saying one way or another, but posing the questions.

    Donovan's miss....

I love that about LD. He doesn't make excuses and he understands what it takes to win. He comes through more often than not.

Nah! Needs to be "Everton the minnow killers." That makes Everton the giant. :D

    Apparently he had the flu.

    Man of the match

Impossible to pick a single Man of the Match. I'm going to say Saha. His runs and hold up play initiated everything the Toffees were able to do out of midfield. That turned out to be total domination. Osman would be right there with Saha.

    Everton 3-1 Manchester United. Saturday 20th February @ 12.45.

Everton looked like a top four team today. Both teams had a mid-week game. I have rarely seen Man U dominated in the middle like they were today. Osman and Arteta were able to play all day long. They were never left without options because the spacing and movement off the ball was superb...

Sports Illustrated: Donovan's immediate success at Everton could complicate his futur

Wahl usually has very reliable sources and he rarely writes what he can't corroborate. Landon's August should be very interesting at Goodison (and perhaps elsewhere). His April and May will be all about MLS and his June about the World Cup. A lot can change between now and August.

It should be more fluid than it has been IMO. I think the absence of Cahill may not only make more exchanges possible, but I think it may make them necessary, unless Everton has another player that can maintain a physical presence and still transition quickly like Cahill does. That's a pretty...

    Evertons Player of the month

I agree that politics play a role. It is true however that the other players mentioned have been at Everton all along. Perhaps somebody noticed that the addition of Donovan has meant 5 wins in eight matches rather than 5 wins in 20 prior to his arrival. Just a thought.

I would not be surprised to see Donovan run behind Saha in this game. We'll see if Moyes has pegged LD for the wide role and will confine him to that, or if he will use him in a place where he can really stretch the defense and express his best qualities. I expect that will depend upon what...

    Penalty takers

I would be interesting to see a comparison of PK experience between Arteta, Baines, Saha, and LD. Any bets who has more spot kicks at a higher level?

LD beginning to express himself for the first time.

That was belief and courage. Hats off to the boys. The best irony of all...Saha made a tool out of John Terry. That is justice. Apparently JT is taking a weekend with his own wife. More justice.

Nope! He's taken so many at such a high level, an occasional miss doesn't faze him. Just watching his preparation for a penalty is worth the price of admission. Pretty weird stuff.

I don't think this is the kind of game that caution is in order. I also think it is going to be very important to figure out how to compete the middle. Playing direct may work at times, and I think the counter-attack is a possibility, but the the boys can hold firm in the middle and maintain...

    Liverpool 1-0 Everton. Saturday 6th February @ 12.45.

Only saw the second half. Poorly organized on the goal, whether it was Neville or Howard, it was the way they sorted it together that failed. If I'm Donovan I would probably make runs to the inside as well. Hugging the line produced a pass to LD's feet with zero space, a pass back to Neville...

Having played in a couple of derbies (though only at the college level) it matters to the players.

That would be epic if he scores! It would definitely influence things from both an Everton and LD perspective. (y)
