Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

We just dont have the money to compete in the open market.

Says who?

We've already spent a fair wedge without selling, and I think we will end up spending more. Probably not as much as we really ought to, but more than we already have. Southampton have supposedly turned down a 37 million offer made by us.

I don't think so.

To prove it's not just retrospective either, I've been saying it since before last season finished. As an example, in April;

If you've an unprecedented rebuild on your hands - don't sack your entire recruitment setup who had done a very admirable job, and wait for new people to arrive, hoping they gel.

That's not to say Thelwell was the long term answer, but there's a time and a place for changes. It felt disjointed, and the end result is showing that so far.
They didn't sack the entire recruitment team, they didn't extend Thelwells contract and Purdy (unexpectedly) followed him out the door. 90% of the scouts at the club will have remained. DoFs don't have a magic wand they use to find players. The thing that's changed is the bloke with the final say has now gone from Thelwell to Moyes.

The club ultimately had to make a choice who they trusted more between Thelwell and Moyes and given Thelwell wanted Potter over Moyes and has since appointed that disaster Martin at Rangers, it was probably the right call.

If they weren't going to trust Thelwell long term why would they give him 'the most important window in years' as they billed it?

The club have got a lot wrong with the transition and I mean a lot, but that doesn't mean the original decision was wrong. The application of it has been the issue. And the signs have been there that it was going to go badly since January.

I tend to agree, in general. But then it is only becoming clear now that half of this new recruitment team haven't even started their jobs yet... In that light, the Friedkins have played fast and loose with our summer.
I agree completely with that. They shouldve paid whatever compensation was necessary to get the other 2 through the door for this summer. Especially the City bloke who hasn't even been working but sat on gardening leave.

TFG have left me with the impression they don't have much of a plan for us and we are a relative afterthought. Under no circumstances should they have allowed Kinnear to work with Leeds an extra 2 months to collect his promotion bonus either.

They're about to sign that winger from Leicester for £15m less than Saints are demanding for Dibs, so he's still ours if we want him. Probably waiting until deadline day to save 75p on his fee though.

Fatawu mate? - was just looking at Sky's rolling transfer thing and they are pushing Palace and Dibling!

Thought El Khannouss was more of a 10/playmaker.

It’s baffling that we’ve got 60mil of strikers at the club and it’s evident that we still need another one.

Barry is still raw but the signings of Beto and Chermiti have to go down as a waste, even if we tried to sell them we’d get a fraction of what we paid.
