Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

You can’t say we panicked with Grealish. He’s been linked all Summer as a main target

You are still banging on about a left sided centre mid - there’s no such thing when you play 2 in midfield.

You’re making much too big a deal of it. Your centre mid pairing should cover the whole of the middle of the park. They can easily interchange.

The difference you have usually is a defensive centre mid and a box to box or more attacking. Never heard of Keane or Scholes described as a left sided centre mid

You are right on Thelwell though. Should have ensured he stayed.
But what about the *heatmap*.

To put it into context - Sunderland this summer have signed Diarra 25m, Adingra - 20m, Xhaka - free, Sadiki - 14m, and Alderete -8m.

All of those would be squad players minimum and upgrades over our bench - several of them would be starters and better than what we have.

That's good recruitment and for Sunderland yes maybe they overpaid on Diarra to get him in quickly and maybe overpaid Xhaka in wages to get him over the line.

Recruitment is about knowing your level and buying at the top of that, seems like we have either over estimated our pull and wasted time and effort on players really had no interest, or if we don't get Dibling then again we've tried too high a level in money we are willing to spend.

Both are signs of very bad recruitment
Nicely summed up mate, I completely agree. I think we have failed to know our level and target players accordingly. Thelwell, free of interference from Moshiri & Kenwright, managed to recruit Ndiaye, O’Brien & Alcaraz and would’ve recruited more but for Dyche. There’s no excuse for not having a RW, RB & DM recruited by now. For me this is on Moyes.

Grealish and KDH have been bought to improve our attacking output through goals, assists and creativity, which both will. It’s not as linear as adding a RW and suddenly scoring more goals, we need a decent makeover in how we attack and they contribute to that. Team game and all that
Way to miss a point. Team game=balanced team, not 4 no 10’s & no RW/RB!

5 days since Jack signed and I don’t believe since then we’ve had any legit rumour come out about anyone new have we? Suspiciously quiet - or worryingly quiet.
The keeper we signed Friday came out of left field didn’t he? Don’t think we were going to be linked to another after signing Travers earlier on

Seen the narrative starting to emerge of if we pay what said ts want for Dibling then that could mean we don't strengthen at RB or CM - so is it wiser to drop down to a lower more affordable target, Boyland suggested this yesterday as one idea.

Thing is though - whose to say we do that and don't get the other ones in anyways.

False economy, you choose your target and unless they aren't attainable - then you should go get them, even if you have to pay more than you'd like to do. Dibling is obviously valued by the club as a player who can go to be worth 100m etc so it's the club now thinking about a lower future profit making them hesitate.

TFG and more importantly the recruitment team put together by them which are under the spotlight right now. Forest and Sunderland business are casting a light on our apparent unprecedented summer and as it stands we've added a few decent t signings with potential a solid player in KDH and a high profile lauded loan deal - but end of the day it's a loan and in twelve months he's gone - so hard to include him in the view of have we rebuilt to the degree needed.

If Barry ends up our big transfer - one surpassed by around 4-5 signings from forest then ultimately we have sold a lie about the degree of rebuild. And it seems more like a typical Everton type summer.

If we do not get a genuinely good right winger in then they've dropped the ball big time, maybe hiring a guy known for being a hard nose haggler over pennies as the head of recruitment isn't the smartest idea in the current climate of football deals.

But at least he can say he never wasted any money on overpriced deals, be sure he won't have made them.

You're responding to someone who truly believes Harrison Armstrong is their neighbour. Someone who has his tongue up and inside every orafice of Moyes.

Someone claiming to be a former red & happy to call Evertonians reds. Someone who has taken a few shots from other posters this window for their supriority complex.

Nice post though.

Diarra was seemingly a Thelwell target.

We'll have to see the comparison of KDH & Diarra over the season.

Grealish and KDH have been bought to improve our attacking output through goals, assists and creativity, which both will. It’s not as linear as adding a RW and suddenly scoring more goals, we need a decent makeover in how we attack and they contribute to that. Team game and all that

We have NO right winger.
We have NO right back.

Im not sure how much more linear you would want the line to point :)

Do you think a team would be better off having quality right sided players...OR to improve the stronger areas of the team.

Doesnt take a wizard to cast spells on some...just Davie Moyes.

If one CM is left footed and one centre mid is right footed.

If one CM is more attack minded and one centre mid is more defensively minded.

Where do you think they will spend most of their time? Youre using Keane and Scholes who were occupying different spaces to compare with KDH, Gana and Garner?

Do you not think this is why KDH was pushed further forwards vs Roma?

I do. Because when you watch the centre yes the positions on paper can become meaningless but over the course of a few games they will naturally operate in different spaces.

There lies the issue.

Moyes and the recruitment team are just going to have to readjust their expectations of quality they want. We can still improve the team in any position. I find it a bit weird that we often say there is a whole world of footballers out there, and then say we are running out of targets. Maybe they need to adjust their PL experience criteria (if there is one).

Progression in terms of quality of player brought in will need to be a little more incremental ….I do wonder if Moyes is trying to fast tack improved quality of players in given he only has two years left.

Its gone beyond the point of no return now in terms of big money signings.

We either make a couple by the end of the summer OR we dont.

We cant buy lower quality. Id rather we finish 12th with no right hand side than 10th wasting money we could use in the next couple of windows.

Would you mind quoting where I have written that KDH & Grealish are not good players?

Because I've never disputed this.

I've also never said i'm "against" either or both of these players.

What I have said multiple times is that both Grealish & KDH are players signed to improve 2 of the teams strongest positions.

Meanwhile the weakest 2 areas of the team at RB & RW along with a DM simply dont have any natural players for those roles.

Could you perhaps highlight a successful club that has 2-3 players out of position over multiple seasons and chooses, yes chooses not to strengthen these positions? Instead strengthens their strongest two areas.

Because you wont find that online.

On the day we signed Alcaraz, if we had quickly followed that up by signing Grealish and KDH level players at RB & RW I suspect we'd all be excited for the new season and praising the transfer business.

Weve signed a good player and loaned a potentially exceptional one...in the wrong positions.

I can't fathom how anyone would have looked at the window after signing Alcaraz and thought;

"I hope we sign a 10 and a left sided 8"

Not a single person would have said that. Its simply bewildering people not only accept but are applauding the glaring mess on the right.
Grealish is a mismatch when it comes to Moyes tacitic no matter how I think about it. KDH not so. It is obvious they are way down the list that compatibility is no longer in consideration and we have to sign someone just to boost numbers.

Spot on. 100% on Moyes.

You cant have a balanced point on here though.

Youre not allowed to have the view that Moyes is a good stable coach but has been frighteningly bad at recruitment for a decade.

I imagine self confessed reds, former reds or whatever their fantasy is thesedays will be 100% behind Moyes recruitment. Doesnt matter if its awful, to them its amazing.

An exercise in pointlessness really.

How i wish Everton had someone who knew how to:

A: Pinpoint targets early
B: Successfully negotiate deals

We have neither.
