I think a lot of us expect this to be more straightforward than it is in practice.I dont think the club has positioned itself properly which is frustrating as despite all the realities, I would still maintain that we are an attractive proposition overall. Not to a certain profile of player, but to others.
I don't really understand at all how we seemingly can't attract players that would improve us over a 2-3 year spell, surely that should be the immediate aim. Perhaps Moyes thought with the right signings he could have us on the coat-tails of the Top 5, but that works only if you get the players in.
There seems to be an idea now that if we can't get a certain player, then the only alternative is some average tat when this simply should not need to be the case.
At all levels it points to a lack of preparation and disagreement within the recruitment team. It's so disappointing.
We already signed one this week anyway so there's a flaw in the argument. How do you know this ?
You can always rely on you to be positive mate. Dear godI think he’s been told to put in a brave face even though it’s absolute shambles behind the scenes.

We weren’t signing anyone in the US eitherPeople have said this quite literally for the last 3 weeks running. We aren’t signing anyone next week.
Great post mate. Agree entirelyI think a lot of us expect this to be more straightforward than it is in practice.
Why can't we attract players that improve us? Because by definition, those players are better than what we have and all players want to play in the best team who will have them. If they're good players, good teams are more likely to want them.
Meanwhile, all the other clubs are trying to attract players that improve them. Do you think Brighton, Bournemouth, Brentford and Fulham should be able easily to attract players that will improve them? Often, well be trying to sign the same players, and those clubs have all regularly finished above us recently.
What about West Ham, who won a European trophy a couple of years ago? Villa, who contend for the CL spots now? Palace, who won the cup last year? Spurs, who won a European trophy and are in the CL again. Plus all the other clubs who can easily outspend us.
It's not easy attracting good players who have proven credentials. They are looking further up the pecking order.
We have a good stadium - that won't feature at all in players thinking. Our manager is respected but hardly exciting. These prospects don't even know who they'll be playing alongside.
I get that we're a 'big' club but of all the 'big' clubs, we are easily the least attractive to players. There's no evidence we're going to challenge for trophies. We're as likely to be battling relegation as qualifying for Europe.
I don't mean to run us down, but it's mad to think Fofana, Luiz, Kubo, McAtee and even Dibling aren't at least looking for better offers, which means our choice is to bet that those offers don't materialise and we get to sign a guy who reluctantly accepts he couldn't do better for now, or sign some less talented players and hope Moyes creates more than the sum of the parts.
There isn't an obvious right answer.
