Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

I think Delap being from a football family massively works in our favour too

All players weigh up a) money b) size of the club and c) what’s best for their career; but you’d think someone who’s dad was a player would take C into account more than the average

Saw the same with Bellingham going to Dortmund over Chelsea/Utd etc (although his dad didn’t play at a high level)

….probably managing expectations as well, be interesting who else he’s talking to. I expect he’ll be giving us serious consideration.
Sadly if Newcastle and Chelsea are in for him and can offer CL football, he’d go there. He’d be mad to go to United at this point in his career.

Young, hungry with huge resale value if he does well with a relatively small fee of £30 million for a striker in this market, who scored 12 scored last season. could argue that this is the kind of signing we’ve all been crying out for as opposed to over the hill players on the way down with no resale value at all.

The other side is an inexperienced young striker for £30mill who had a flash in the pan 1st season (countless examples of relegation sides having goalscorers, Bamford for Leeds scored 17 in his first season for example, Josh King etc) that disguises his flaws, that we'd put so much pressure on him to score a minimum of 10 goals and carry the forward line on his own.

It's a gamble for someone I've not seen anything special about.

McAtee at City - the other forward at the same age - for me looks a better shout if we're going down that route for a similar price range.

Also...Beto scored near the same amount of goals in half the game time. But he's seen as "not good enough"

He gets to play every week at Everton , more or less guaranteed.

You would imagine that if he can be persuaded to sign that he will want a reasonable release clause as he did it Ipswich ( say £50 million ).

I genuinely think it would be a smart move for him to progress his career and development but I very much doubt that he will choose us but you never know.

Not convinced how good Delap is btw but....a lot of complaints from ourselves that the club doesn't keep us informed enough over the years, Moyes says we've spoken to Delap, " behind the black ball" probably means it's unlikely, and so we ridicule the statement with " club will say at least we tried ".
Damned if they do, dawned if they don't
Behind the black ball proabley means others can offer more wages.

I am more concerned about throwing good money on misfits whom are in our squad at there end of contracts.

Yeah I do think he’ll have better long-term advice getting fed to him by his dad than a money grabbing agent.

Still young so it’s so important to him to continue to get the minutes he got last season to continue momentum, and he’s got plenty time to progress to one of these elite clubs. I’m sure we’d give him clauses that would guarantee a move for him and a profit for us in a couple years time.

Ultimately though who knows what will be the decisive factor. The lure of the big club is what it is, although another factor might be that he’s already been at and spat out by one of the biggest in the country, so that might not have as much allure as you’d think.

He was knocking on the door of the first team but with Salah ahead of him he seems to have jumped at the chance to go on loan and done well so a good attitude. I was full sure he was coming back to them this year and will get more minutes but if they are buying Wirtz and Chiesa will be fitter they may let him go. First I'm hearing he even might be available but like you say, would be a solid investment
Personally would prefer to get an equally promising youngster whilst us not giving the RS more spending power. If someone else gets him fine. Petty I know but there are a lot of young promising youngsters out there.
