Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

100% on that, i feel Moyes also works at his best with a smaller squad and everyone is involved.

I also understand what you are saying in terms of someone like Brownhill could end up taking 800 odd minutes off Armstrong next season, which needs to be one of our key objectives next season .....find minutes for Armstrong

If Gueye went , we would need a proper defensive midfielder, which you would prefer to play with Armstrong/Garner/Iroebugnam. Brownhill would just be an addition to the list of the 3 mentioned

A possible Doucoure replacement though? He's shown what he can do with the stabilizers off and given a more attacking role

Possibly if we did a PSR flip with Garner or Tim, he would be a nice addition.

I think more my point and the mention of the 3 i just did is, every signing can't be a 'project'. It would be nice to hit the ground running for once and 2 or 3 younger versions of what Ashley Young has been, aren't a bad option (Tete & Walker Peters would probably start tomorrow if hey were at the club)

I'd imagine he's just holding out for a good deal from Burnley though
There’s no chance he would score goals in the prem and that’s been proven all the years he’s played in it. There’s loads of examples of players doing well in the championship and not in the prem, Adam Armstrong is one example

I wouldn’t want brownhill anywhere near the club personally, though I get we could be in a difficult situation with gana maybe going and doucoure, if we could keep gana id have no issue selling garner, because it would be decent profit for PSR, but we’d need 2 quality midfielders then, Tim 4th choice ?? We can also loan a midfielder, than giving brownhill a 3yr deal and being stuck with him

Why on earth would we want a backup for Mykolenko? He needs replacing himself, he should be back up to whoever comes in.
He's been excellent since Moyes came in
Was also excellent all of last season

Had a dip at the beginning of the season, but i think he was carrying an injury and Dyche just told him to 'suck it up'

Also an interesting list of players with only 12 months left on there contracts
Wonder if there is any scope to get cheaper deals to avoid the clubs losing them for nothing

Adingra
Longstaff
Janelt
Barkley
Bella Kotchap
Brooks
Soumare
McAtee
Targett
Andringa
McAtee

The rest no thanks

Bar this season (Championship) & last year under Komapany, he has played as a blocker in flat midfield 4. What would you expect

Our midfielders goals this season
Mangala (1)
Doucoure (3)
Gueye (0)
Garner (0)
Iroegbunam (0)
Alcaraz (although more advanced (1))

I think Myko will be first choice next season I can probably see us buying left sided CB/LB to cover 2 potions. The majority of our money should be spent on the attackers this summer

Just because we haven’t got many goals from midfield doesn’t mean brownhill will. Not many centre mids score goals these days, the ones who sit, even in the top teams, think Rhodri got a few. Brownhill has 6 in 111 prem games, I get he would be a squad player, playing the odd game and 20 minutes here and there.
Not sure why you’d even mention goals, it’s not like hes coming on to play 38 games as our number 10.

Alcaraz started 1 game and got a goal and an assist

Calculated risks, yes! And that’s my point really.

I’d want to see a bit more than what’s been seen with Rigg before I start calling him a wonderkid and dropping 30 million pounds on him just so that we can wait for two years before he ‘adjusts to the Premier League’, and then turns out to be like Besic or Rodwell, or some other average CM that has been hyped to the max without really showing anything.

I’m not in love with Josh Brownhill, but like it or not, those stats from this season are extremely impressive!

Do you think Sean ‘15 million pound’ Longstaff would get those figures? How about James Garner, who is in our first 11, and has improved our central midfield no end since his return? He wouldn’t come close to getting those figures!

Perhaps someone like Soucek would actually get those type of figures from central midfield in the championship, but he’d set us back 15 - 20 million as he approaches 30 years old.

Whoever gets Brownhill on a free transfer is going to be cleaning up in the exact same way we did when we got Tarky on a free! Very good value for money, with minimum risk!
Longstaff is a very good player, 6 Premier League goals last year, not got as many minutes this year as last though.
Obviously in my opinion that midfield 3 of Newcastles's is one of the best in the league, so its not a slight that he cant get in the team now Tonali is back

Everton are reportedly working on a deal to sign Nantes forward Moses Simon.

David Moyes looks set to lose several attacking players at the end of the season. Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s contract will expire, while it’s unlikely that Jack Harrison and Armando Broja will see their loan deals converted into permanent ones.

Brownhill's 29 and this season is a complete anomaly in terms of goals - he's on track to score as many goals this season as he has in the last 4 combined. I actually don't mind Brownhill as a player and we genuinely could do worse than pick him up on a free as a squad option, but just saying he's scored 15 goals this year so must be better than Rigg who's scored 4 is logic even my 6 year old daughter would laugh at.
What happens when he turns 30?

Turns 30 in July so would be a bit of an odd one

You’re standards mate, on the floor. He’s that good Longstaff, no other club in the prem we’re interested in him, when he was in a crap Newcastle side, near the bottom of the league or in the championship, when you probably could have got him very cheaply, let’s stop buying cast off from the top 8 clubs
