that is exactly right. korean students are emotionally really immature. they have no idea of live or relationships outside the classroom. dating is banned (in a high school!) and they only get home to sleep. so something like not doing homework could be a big problem for them in their little universes. she might have a history too in her family of depression too. you are right about not letting this death be in vain. but so many teenage suicides every year in every city, what really happens is that it is hushed up as it is bad for the school's rep and it becomes a tabboo topic and life carries on as usual.

it makes me sick.

The tragedy is that the things that a 17 year old kid finds just too much to bear often seem like a joke just a few years later. I suppose it's possible that she lacked the maturity to properly reflect on her problems. Or maybe this was part of a deeper pathology within her. Some people seem genetically disposed to depression. The good that come of it is it can at least give the students and teachers a chance to focus a little on how students can deal with the pressures they face.

one big family. that is exactly right. her homeroom teacher is distraught. all her classmates are freaked out. you invest so much in to the students emotionally you almost think they are like surrogate kids. but who knows the real reason. whatever the reason if she could have just confided with the school nurse or anyone. she was 17 and still had 2 years of high school. whatever her problem it's so sad to think she was on her own with it.

neb, it's a tragedy. she was beautiful and had everything to live for. i can't get her face out of my head all day. why did she do it? i'll be honest, it's hit me hard.
