Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

It’s a strange one for Irish people. On one hand she was the figurehead of the Army and the atrocities they committed here in her name. On the other hand, the choreography of her meeting Martin McGuinness was welcome and contributed significantly to moving things further towards politics in Ireland. That’s a debate that could go on all night and this isn’t it.

Honestly though, the blanket coverage of events must be tiresome for even the Arch Royalists.

The media cannot help themselves. Most of the other crap they put on doesn’t attract viewers…so this is like a gold mine to them….

As I say to my kids, thank God you live in Ireland when you see the weather extremes across the pond.
As far as Tropical Storm moisture, we usually (and So Calif) rarely get hit. Most hurricanes and tropical storms that form off the coast of Mexico head west towards Hawaii. This one heading due North is not a normal thing.

We all need the rain in the SW USA, so we just have to prepare and hold on! lol

Wishing lots of Irish rain dance prayers in your direction.

I've never been able to say I'm an ITK but a bit of an exclusive for you guys.

Just back from the gym and chatting to a RAF PT instructor who told me theat all leave is cancelled and they have to report to Windsor Castle over the weekend to prepare for the funeral which is scheduled for 19 September.

Don't think that date has been released yet.

As some of you know I'm Chairman of our local table tennis league. Our season is due to start next week.

We've decided to proceed with games next week but matches on 19 September will be postponed.
That's the same date as my great niece's funeral.

Weirdly, her mother got married (for the 3rd time) on the same day as Wills and Kate.

Morning Ange and the rest of my friends on here.

It feels very strange today. It is sad but like a big chunk of something is missing, which feels really weird to me as someone not in favour of the Monarchy , the privilege, wealth and entitlement that goes with it.

Perhaps there's something deep in my psyche that , despite my ideological arguments against the Monarchy , still resonates and finds them an important institution and part of the fabric of this country.

And all that is intertwined with the sad passing of anyone but especially someone who we didn't actually know but somehow thought we did. She has touched so many lives , is important to so many people and quite naturally there will be a nationwide out pouring of grief.

My mum's OK. She's sad and I was worried that given her age it might prompt some morbid thoughts but no she seems to have compartmentalised.

I saw GOT at its worst yesterday. Some of the comments on a particular thread were scandalous , disrespectful and quite frankly whatever views you hold were beyond the pale.

I'm pleased to see that the mods seem to have deleted and expunged it. Those who "contributed " to it should be ashamed. But , they won't be. Even if , like me, you are not in favour of the Monarchy have some respect and decorum please.

Rant over.

No idea what the day holds.

Take care everyone.
Well said mate. I had a few things to say in that thread myself. I was respectful to other people's views on the Royals but some of the piss taking was way out of order given somebody had just died.

The ship paid its respects yesterday with a minutes silence which I somehow managed to do standing up in a swimming pool, followed by spontaneous clapping and a very out of tune rendition of God Save the King. Surreal but quite moving too.
