Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

It’s 7:30 pm here in Auckland almost my last Friday here . My little grandson came back from school camp … dishrevelled and smelly and totally exhausted and thrilled by his experience .
I’m now secreted away in my room for an hour or two … I like to read about now and let the family have some alone time … three months is a long time for a house guest … especially a slightly off beat old dude like me !!! As my little grandson put it “ grandad your wierd … in a nice way “ I’ll go up in a couple of hours , my son and I have a late Friday tradition of good single malt … a home made pork pie ( my specialty) and a super hero movie
Just a footnote , was thinking of Karl this week it seems to have popped into my thoughts with the passing of our Queen so I’ll toast them both tonight along with my old Mum and Dad
Have a great day mascoteers

Morning Ange and the rest of my friends on here.

It feels very strange today. It is sad but like a big chunk of something is missing, which feels really weird to me as someone not in favour of the Monarchy , the privilege, wealth and entitlement that goes with it.

Perhaps there's something deep in my psyche that , despite my ideological arguments against the Monarchy , still resonates and finds them an important institution and part of the fabric of this country.

And all that is intertwined with the sad passing of anyone but especially someone who we didn't actually know but somehow thought we did. She has touched so many lives , is important to so many people and quite naturally there will be a nationwide out pouring of grief.

My mum's OK. She's sad and I was worried that given her age it might prompt some morbid thoughts but no she seems to have compartmentalised.

I saw GOT at its worst yesterday. Some of the comments on a particular thread were scandalous , disrespectful and quite frankly whatever views you hold were beyond the pale.

I'm pleased to see that the mods seem to have deleted and expunged it. Those who "contributed " to it should be ashamed. But , they won't be. Even if , like me, you are not in favour of the Monarchy have some respect and decorum please.

Rant over.

No idea what the day holds.

Take care everyone.
Morning. Your second and third paragraphs are exactly how I feel. And how I agree about people showing some respect regardless of political views.
Glad your Mum is OK

Grandad, you're weird but in a nice way might be the best compliment you'll ever get. I think it's absolute class. You seem to have had a fabulous time with your family. So nice.

My son once told me that I was ' the second coolest parent of the 6th form' I loved that.

Who was the coolest ?
I was only beaten by the Dad of one of his mates who was in a fairly well known punk band called Penetration. I actually nearly died one morning when he called to pick his son up from our house after he had stayed over following a night out. I answered the door in my scruff, hair unbrushed. 'F me' I thought. 'Fred Purser is at my door. I've got records by him!' Lovely bloke. The whole family were. My kids are the same age as his and went through primary and secondary school together. Used to talk to their Mum loads at the school gates but never made the connection with the music for years until my son vaguely mentioned that Lewis's Dad used to be in a punk band.

Well said that man .

I've never been able to say I'm an ITK but a bit of an exclusive for you guys.

Just back from the gym and chatting to a RAF PT instructor who told me theat all leave is cancelled and they have to report to Windsor Castle over the weekend to prepare for the funeral which is scheduled for 19 September.

Don't think that date has been released yet.

As some of you know I'm Chairman of our local table tennis league. Our season is due to start next week.

We've decided to proceed with games next week but matches on 19 September will be postponed.

Makes sense. The stuff I read, because I do love all the protocols and constitutional things, said the funeral is usually 10 days of the death. 10 days would be 18th - which is a Sunday. I don't think funerals take place on Sundays so the 19th would be the logical date.

Also, it has only just occurred to me that we will have new money and stamps.

you will get the day off on Monday week Ange

As predicted, the "look at how much I am mourning" crown have been out in force today, no doubt the Poppy outrage is going to be doubly worse this year... ?

Aside from that, I've had a pleasant day. I've got a week off, the sun is shining and I've got all the bits to make my Moroccan style chicken and chickpea tagine tonight ? Although, I've forgotten to buy lemons. D'oh!

Also:

Got a link to the tune mate?

My first professional music release in a very long time, I'm fairly buzzing with it
