Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

My son's first words this morning were, "It's daddy and lad day. We're off to the football!" I love how excited he is and how we spend so much time together.

I always promised to myself that I'd have a strong relationship my children and spend as much time with them as possible because I didn't have it with my father.
The greatest gift you can your kids is your time ,I understand as my father was a step-father and I never sat on his knee .I still feel empty inside even at my age never having had that pleasure ,he had his own two and they got the love.

Holiday has begun…. Driving through to Joburg.. on the plane to London tomorrow connecting to Ireland .. a week there then a few days in Oxford with my mom .. then London for about 8 days or so….

Been a hell of a year so looking forward to forgetting work and connecting as a family.. as much time as we do spend with each other and do stuff always feel like it’s influenced by the pressure going on…

Hope the Boys give us a great start today.. but either way it won’t change the buzz I’m feeling to get away!

Now if you want to bring your lad over we could work on his backhand!

Update on the hangover. God I feel ill.

Was invited round to the neighbours last night for G&T Friday. With some cheese and biscuits to keep us going. After 3 G&Ts the cognac came out and Rob & I polished off the whole bottle. I'm definitely a bad influence on him. I think Michelle i having second thoughts on the cruise front.lol

I don't think a lack of substantial food helped. I didn't have much for lunch either. But I took your advice Anj an made myself a bacon butty for lunch and feel a bit better for it.

On the cruise front, things have moved on quite a lot and we've now decided on a fly cruise around the Greek Isles, which starts and ends at Valletta, one of my favourite places. The neighbour is just trying to find one with a suite available, but hopefully we'll be going sometime in September.

My £5 free bet with Skybet has also just come in so happy days. Or it would be if not for the hangover.lol

What's a fly cruise mate? Never heard of it.

Good luck with the hangover, hope the Blues don't worsen it later!

It's when you fly out somewhere to join the cruise Billy, rather than sailing from a port in the UK. It isn't something I've done before because Cal didn't fly. Even if she did, I don't think all the luggage she took on cruises would fit on the plane.

Hope you feel better soon, well done on the bet, good luck with the cruise booking.

She called me back and low and behold, he has just done it, they had such a backlog
lol
my arse, he forgot!! Anyway 22nd August got a physical health check and ECG then see the Dr on 5th September to start my meds. At least it's sorted now I suppose but another month isn't great tbh.
So glad to read you finally got your appointment, hopefully the meds will help improve your mental health ?

Hello everybody. Hope you are having a lovely day. It's been a funny old day here weather wise, Warm but ridiculously windy (my tomato plants all got blown over in their tubs, had to shelter them between the bins!) and really overcast. Looks like it is about to pour but has not. Very odd.
Paid my last visit to Cookie this morning. She was still alive so job done.
lol

Love the thunderstorm story @Gwladysover . My Nan was the same- made us switch everything off and had similar fears about the lightning coming down the chimney. Hope you enjoyed your day in Lincoln.
It's my Dad's birthday today. He's 85, I haven't spoken to him yet because he has been having one of his dialysis sessions. I bought him an air fryer - he's been on about getting one for ages. He uses a deep fat fryer for his chips but it's too messy he says. He also does love a gadget so I think he'll have fun with an air fryer. I'll ring him in about an hour, it gives him a chance to get home and have his tea.
I'm going on a hen do to York on Saturday. I thought my hen do days were well over! It's one of my work friends. She's getting married on Sept 8th. I'm the same age as her Mum who is also going to the hen do! The bride to be doesn't drink so we have activities planned, including Harry Potter golf and a ghost bus tour round York. We're also doing a cocktail making class - which might be the only alcohol involved on the day. I will miss our first match though - could be a good thing but our record against Chelsea at home is decent.
I notice Liz Truss did a rapid U turn today about regionalising Civil Service Pay. So much for levelling up and no way to keep the former Red Wall voters on board. She's an idiot. Although it's always the same - in the absence of anything constructive , have a go at the Civil Service.
Happy belated birthday to your dad, Ange. You have to give us an update later on how things are going with his air fryer.

Also a very happy birthday to Charlotte!

Made the decision that I am sure @Barnfred 55 faced last year after Cal passed, to stay living in Nik and mine cottage. I juggled all sorts in the months after Nikki left us, even toyed with moving back to Liverpool. But in a moment of clarity, just couldnt face the thought of locking the door for the last time.

And since then, really looking forward to actually doing all the plans we had nattered about the place. Nowt major, garden/meadow notwithstanding, and deffo not in some shrine way. Just feels right.
Sounds like an excellent decision, and one that Nikki I’m sure approves, you do seem to have a lovely place where to grow old.

100% mate. Just sitting in the garden now and was thinking I'd made the right decision to continue living down here, at least for another year or two. I miss family and friends, but I think at the end of the day I'd miss Cornwall more.

We had a dream to come and live down here and it came true. I'd feel a fraud if I didn't at least give it a go. Plus I love it down here . Obviously I'd love it infinitely more if Cal was here too but she wouldn't be with me either if I moved back to Liverpool.
I also think you are making the best decision for yourself. While you miss family and friends in Liverpool, you have also created new bonds in Cornwall and these people have been very uplifting during the hard moments you have encountered since Cal departed so continue living there seems like a good path until you decide otherwise.

emoji versus just liking something.
I have been asking for those since I joined the forum and the best we got is the new added emojis, I believe is a software issue that can’t be changed.

You’ll all no doubt be flabbergasted to learn that I am NOT, in fact, Brett Angell.

You lovely lot from this thread are more than welcome to call me Dave.
Nice to meeting you, Dave! I’ll make sure to ask for those pics now that I know your real name ;) lol

Not long after my old man passed last year I was back in Ireland, my old dear went to family in Meath to get away from it a bit and took a poor turn herself and spent a week in hospital across the border so obviously I legged it over there.

With views like this and fantastic people I'm a fool for not doing it more often.

Right outside my Dad's cousins house.

I originally sent this photo to @Sassy Colombian who consistently PM'd me checking on me and helped a huge amount, more than she'll ever know.
Such gorgeous views, I can’t wait until I get to visit Ireland.

Awe, I’m glad to read that I was actually helping and not harassing ;)

Well my daughter is just on her way to hospital to have her second child. Looks like I shall be buying the drinks tomorrow night…..
Congrats, Pete! My mom always says grandkids are the greatest joy of life.

Good morning all on this once again sultry day here in Finland. @roydo and @Barnfred 55 you are both so right .The ladies haven't left you they are just out of sight and a promise is a promise until it it becomes too heavy to bear . They would be proud of the two of you ,showing such fortitude and love .
We picked blackcurrants yesterday and they are the sweetest I have ever tasted .We are trying to get more today to freeze and make the obligatory liquor of course . I hope all have a great day and some great photos of Hibernia lads ,I hope that doesn't upset anyone .
Well said.

And well done with all your outdoor adventures collecting food. The chanterelle was out of this world!

Morning everyone ,

Started off bright and sunny as per the forecast then a massive shower completely out of the blue.

Anyway taking mum for a steroid injection in her knee later - that will be fun - and hopefully cut some grass later.

Looks like Uncle Bill has found the Atreta money and splashing it on a new midfield .

Enjoy the day everyone
Hope your mum’s injections went well and that your back is feeling much better. All that work that you and Mrs. J did on the driveway was quite impressive, as it is your driveway lol

Have a nice time at the game with your lads. These are the moments that create strong relationships and forever memories. Hopefully Everton will make it be a good one too!

Have a man amazing time, your holiday sounds amazing and having that time to connect with your family is always a great opportunity to revitalize after a hell of a year.

Bit of allergic reaction to some meds, the Doc is sending me a prescription for some prednisone hopefully it does the trick
I hope your rash has improved and you are feeling much better.

Its perfect @Sassy Colombian , and although you need to drive for pretty much everything, we live a 2 minute walk from this place. Where Nikki and I first met.

If those walls could talk @roydo there would be some stories to tell.

Give me an old boozer any day of the week over one of the cookie cutter chain ones.

Happy match day friends!

Our first time of the season is finally here and while i wish our first game wasn’t against Chelsea, at least we are playing home so hopefully we will achieve a good result in front of our crowd.

So much has happened the past couple of weeks but it would take me far too long going over everything but the highlights are that I lost my phone in the river while tubing after my tube when under a branch that had a copperhead hanging from it that almost landed in my tube. Then my iPhone replacement got stolen from outside my gate, the whole ordeal left me without phone for almost a week which seem like an eternity during this age of technology. In the meanwhile Sofia came home from camp one day claiming that she was now a woman since she got her period for the first time so my poor husband is now going have to deal with two PMSing women every month and just a bathroom, not good at all. Then my younger brother decided he didn’t want to go to the beach while he is visiting from Belgium canceling our only chance to go to the beach this summer so that was very disappointing. Work has been very busy still but last Saturday at an event that I attended I got a visit from the VP of Student Services, who is the main boss in my department, and he expressed how happy they are with my work. Later in the conversation when I told him how much I want to continue growing within the college he mentioned that in the future my boss position will become available once she retires and that I should pursue it, which is great to hear that he would consider me for that job. Lastly, Sofia is going to overnight Girl Scout camp tomorrow, I have been helping her things get ready which has added to my busyness. She is super excited about going again on this experience and one of her best friends is going too and they will be placed in the same cabin so they can’t wait to spend this time together without parents. The hubby and I are also thrilled to have some time on our own, our 26 year anniversary is the following week and that will be a busy time for me as it is the beginning of the fall semester at the College so we are going to make the most of it next week instead. That’s my quick update and it took much longer than I hope.

I hope everyone has a beautiful weekend and may our Blues give us the first happiness of the season with a win!

Arriba los Caramelos!
