Talking of Athletics, imagine the uproar if they called Linford Christie "The Lunchbox" these days lol or is sexism to men ok still lol It was Linford, Jon Regis, Steve Ovett, Steve Cram, Seb Coe, Sally Gunnel, Tessa Daley and Fatima Whitbread, Daley Thompson era that I first started watching athletics, never used to miss the Olympics and world championships.

I used to watch men and women's Wimbledon every year as well, Ivan Lendl was my fave player, Pete Sampras, Andre Agassi, Boris Becker, Martina Navratilova, Steffi Graf, Martina Hingis, Monica Seles(until she got stabbed, but that groan dear me) era and the Tim Henman and Greg Rusedski in the 90's.

Not sure why I stopped watching these sports really, I used to enjoy them and always tuned in even if it was at a silly o'clock somewhere else in the world

Can't believe you missed "sex on legs" off your list. ?

Thanks Fred.

I thought the final was interesting. After all the publicity I watched the whole game , the first time i've watched 90 / 120 minutes of a womans game.

I have to be very honest and say that I was dissappointed in the quality of play. I had expected much better. I thought both keepers were good , despite what I'd heard about female keepers.
I thought Germany were technically better but should have had Rauch sent off in the first half.

Overall it was the lack of technical ability that surprised me. I watch a lot of womens golf and table tennis. At the top level , of course they lack power and physicality but their technique is absolutely superb - as good , if not better , than top men.

However last night , apart from the pass and finish for the 1st goal which was excellent I saw players struggling to control and pass the ball. Perhaps it was the occasion I don't know.

Of course , I am made up that we won and I thought that when we went 2-1 up we played with professionalism and snide to run the clock down. Thought Williamson and Walsh were very good . Would be very interested to see what everyone else , especially @anjelikaferrett and @Gwladysover thought.
I think tiredness played a role yesterday. England looked out on their feet second half. They looked technically better in previous games.

One good technical team in the past has been Japan. I can remember in the 2011 World Cup and the 2012 Olympics I thought they were brilliant . No idea what they’re like now though

Thanks Fred.

As I‘ve said previously we watch quite a lot of women’s football, WSL, FA Cup and England internationals. The quality of the play has improved no end in the last couple of years particularly among the top teams in the WSL although nowhere near the standard of the men’s game, having said that it’s early days for the women’s game, compared to the length of time men have been playing. There is a distinct lack of gamesmanship and when tackled players only stay down if the injury is genuine, long may it continue. As to England, I thought yesterday was their worst performance after the opener against Austria but they ground out the result which was all that mattered. I thought the ref had a bad game yesterday, I know she has refereed men’s games and women’s World Cups in the past but I can’t help thinking that they gave her the game yesterday as a public relations exercise because she escaped from a bunker in Ukraine.

Brilliant. None of this on demand stuff. If you missed it, tough. You had to wait until it was repeated. And if anybody went to the loo during an advert break the shrieking from downstairs of " It's back on!!" could have raised the dead.

Saw this and it made me laugh

Men for 60 years: It's coming home, it's coming home

Women: Oh FFS! I'll get it myself.

Great result though. Should do loads for girls who want to play football. I love that there are so many more opportunities for girls nowadays. I would have loved to have played cricket as a youngster. My daughter played rugby for her school and loved it. She stopped because as she got older she didn't like being sweaty when she went to the next class- even after a shower.
At fourteen we were allowed to play cricket as an alternative to tennis during games lessons. My friend and I both hated tennis so signed up straightaway for cricket. Friend ended up with a broken thumb as she was hit on the hand by the ball when batting, I spent most of my time on the boundary when fielding, trying to keep out of the way and always volunteered to bat at the tail end, which meant the sports lesson had usually ended before I was required. lol

Looks like we are going to be on water restrictions down here this week at some point, other than about 2hrs worth of drizzle a few days back we have had no rain in about 6/7 weeks down here now and there is none forecast :(
Really short of rainfall here too, a bit overnight on Saturday/Sunday and although it rained again yesterday morning it was nowhere near the amount forecast. Anglian Water keep sending emails about saving water - one of their tips - get an extra water butt. Can have as many water butts as we like and we have three but if there’s no rain….

Morning all, just had a nice walk round the fields for 90mins and Daisy had a run off her lead and managed not to roll in poo for a change so all good. Seen a few rabbits today, good thing about Daisy is even off the lead she wouldn't do anything, except try and play with them obviously lol

Stopped at the co-op on the way home for milk, £1.80 for 4pinter it's £1.45 in Aldi and Tesco, mind blown at that, It was already £1.50 before the price hike
View attachment 175617View attachment 175618can just about see the rabbit in the distance there in first pic, couldn't get closer or they scarpered

Hope everyone is well, I'm going to phone the mental health tomorrow see what's going on before I become a real mess.

Have a good bank holiday mascoteers.

Oh and well done those Lionesses I watched a bit and the standard is much better these days, that first goal was a peach
Love seeing pics of Daisy. Hope you have success with your phone call tomorrow.

Yeah, that's what they have said down here, they already have a hosepipe ban and restrictions in Hampshire just waiting for it to come into Sussex.
