Absolutely roasting up here today, off to a family bbq for my Grandaughter's 18th, can't believe it, she's grown up so quickly, she's also starting at St Andrews uni soon so as you can understand we're very proud of her.
She is full of too much cheek, I told her I'd take her to Glasgow for a few drinks and a meal she said as long as it was for cocktails and none of those old man pubs? youngsters eh!

Good afternoon friends.
It took me almost an hour to catch up to what has been happening with everyone the past few days. Glad to hear @Barnfred 55 made it safely back to sunny Cornwall and most importantly that you realize where home is, at least at the moment. @Gwladysover lovely pics as always, we don’t get tired of you sharing them so keep posting them. I’m sorry to read your grandson still is dealing with bullying, like Ange said, it seems the school needs to do a better job with their policies regarding bullying, they seem to have continued letting this happen without serious consequences to the perpetrators. @Terrarian it is good to read that you finally got a diagnosis after years of getting neglected, hopefully the treatment the doctors have laid out for it will help you and will be a step in a good direction to feeling a bit better mentally. @BornBlue76 i hope your lad had a good birthday celebration. My daughter is also starting middle school in August and she is super excited about the change. @anjelikaferrett sun burns are not fun whether you are a ginger or a tan Colombian, so I hope your daughter skin has improved. Loved the coal pics too! @blue1948 I was only able to cook the curry once before it got too hot for such dishes but I have it on my list of recipes for the fall and winter. Btw, your zucchini plant seems to be doing much better than mine, lucky you! Mine keep flowering but not zucchini is growing at all. My tomato plants and peppers are doing great though. @jazzy I was thinking about you this week as I was following the new Johnson lying spectacle, I’m sure you are happy to seeing him gone, but you are correct when stating he left the house burning. Now that it seems the race is packed with candidates, is any of them better than Johnson? And when do the people of the UK get to vote again for prime minister? I’m still confused on how you elect your leaders. @Armaghtoffee sounds like you are having a great time, thanks for all the love you sent us last week! @larbert toffee it seems you are not letting Fred get away with much, so keep up the good work. And happy 18th birthday to your granddaughter, may she have a great celebration and many more years around the sun. It seems @Methuselah still haven’t post since my absence. I hope all is well with you, sir. We missed your good stories that’s for sure. I’m sad to hear about @Toast ban, he was also very nice to me when I first joined the forum and Goat was not very kind. More than once he sent me a PM checking on me, or encouraging me to return to GOT thus it is sad that one slipped made him vulnerable to a ban. @[Deleted Member] sending some blue love back to you ?

It has been a long week for me. The last Monday when I posted was 4th of July and we were waiting for the weather to turn better so we could spend some time with friends and attend the fireworks display. Unfortunately, as you already know there was yet another shooting of innocent people here in the US so that darkened our mood and we began having some hesitations of going out, then not too long after the Chicago shooting there was a notification that there was a bomb threat in downtown Asheville, that did it for us. So we had dinner with my daughter’s best friend and her parents but skipped the fireworks celebrations, none of us were in the mood of celebrating a country that’s allowing their citizens to kill one another just because our Founding Fathers gave us the right to arms. Anyway, I don’t want to be living in fear but it is becoming more scary how bad the situation has gotten all over this country. Even more when your own city gets threatened. So the past few days I have been dealing with different emotions from sadness to anger to a sense of impotence. All this pondering has our family seriously considering acquiring some property in Colombia, while my other nation has problems of its own when it comes to violence, it is a different type and the new president elect gives me hope for real change happening in Colombia. However, the US violence is nonsense and very proliferan. Is the gun industry making and our legislators are doing nothing about it, but they are okay with nominating justices to take women’s rights away ? My adoptive country just keeps heading the wrong direction and with the hubby we want to have a plan of what we could do or where we could go if things were to get much worse. I love Asheville and hope we don’t have to move anytime soon, but better to be prepared than not.

The leader of the party with an overall majority is the Prime Minister unless it is a “hung Parliament” that is one with no party having an overall majority then deals have to be done to between the parties. As Johnson is stepping down as leader there will be an election with members of the Conservative party voting for a new leader. The new leader will be the Prime Minister. As Johnson hasn’t resigned, just stepped down, in theory he can put himself for election as leader again and therefore still be Prime Minister. It’s all a bit complicated and there’s one thing for sure whoever wins, things aren’t going to get any easier for ordinary people.

Worrying times for you all and all the more worrying when it is so close to home. It makes sense to have a contingency plan. I can’t fathom a country where you can’t buy a drink until you are 21 but can you can buy a gun.

Not everything has been negative this week. I got to harvest some peppers and some flowers from the garden so that make my week brighter.
We also went hiking yesterday with my nephew and brother, visiting from Colombia, and found some chicken of the woods mushrooms, didn’t know much about them but my nephew did so we collected them and brought them home and last night pan fried them with some butter and they were delicious. Now we know of two spots where next year we could go and find some again

I would rather not having to have such worries, but unfortunately that’s our new reality so a contingency plan seems appropriate. We loved Costa Rica and would love to purchase a place there but unless you are a citizen it gets complicated to purchase property that you actually have rights over it. Same would be anywhere else. We love Europe but it would be difficult to move there or anywhere else as an immigrant. Having dual citizenship with Colombia though does give us an alternative, moreover it is my homeland and I do love my people. Other members of our family that also live in the US are also considering the same so we may all buy a big piece of land together. My dream is grow old in a farm at a place with warm weather in the mountains but near the ocean, Colombia has exactly those places so maybe that’s where we end up once we retire.
I don’t think he will mind me saying but our good bud @Harryflashman let me know by DM he’s OK, just taking a break from the forum.Just writing the above post reminded me of our old friend Harryflashman, who I don't think we've seen on the forum since he did this post about 6 months ago. Hope you're OK H if you ever read this.
I thought about Harry when I was in the Bridewell enjoying a beer on my own when I was up in Liverpool last week. I was surprised to see that an old friend (and great Blue) was working there. I know him from when he worked at Rigby's on Dale Street, which was my regular haunt back in my working days, and I hadn't seen him for probably over 5 years. To his credit he knew me instantly and remembered my name, which is no mean feat for a barman who must see thousands of different faces each year. We were getting along great catching up on all things Everton, until he asked about Cal. Well he wasn't to know was he.
Anyway, Harry would have known the guy in question very well. In fact i know he did because we've discussed him in these pages. As I said, I hope Harry is well. I always felt as though he had an underlying problem or issue that he was reluctant to talk about on here.

Shame I didn't make enquiries a little earlier as we could have caught up last week whilst i was up in Liverpool. As long as he didn't mind catching the dreaded lurghi from me.
