The story goes when Ferguson arrived at Utd, Whiteside, Robson and McGrath were all big drinking buddies and out most nights. He decided to keep one and ship the other two. Ferguson said later he got it wrong on McGrath and a huge regret not hanging onto him.

To be honest, Paul was never for changing, still isn’t, but a true unassuming gentleman, you can’t help but love him. Anyone whoever met will know what I mean. I could go on about him, but the man himself would be embarrassed.

He and Ferguson never would have seen eye to eye - funny I think Ferguson learned an awful lot from the above, he showed huge tolerrnce to special players with awkward personalities after, Cantona, Schmicheal, Keane etc.
Must admit I did like all three from the Manpoo United, I believe we nearly signed Robson, McGrath was a solid CB and well worth an investment , likewise Whiteside who played for us and performed well...scored goals....but glass knees. They are three Utd players who I respect from the 80s era, brave, committed and silky skilled. They had a decent side, even in 85 when they beat us in the FA Cup Final, that season we battered them 5-0 at Goodison and away in the Mickey Mouse Cup, for a small period Howard made us the top dogs

Me too, I loved Sheedy because he played for us and played for us, what a wand he had. The others though were walking into any team anywhere in the world and just fitting right in and improving it.

Ive just never seen a better defender than McGrath, people talk about Bekenbaur, before my time, McGrath was imperious at his peak, it was just natural and easy for him, he defo has to be my no 1, though it’s tough company. He had this radar, right place right time - alo the time, I’ve never seen in game intelligence like his, his reading of the game was impeccable. The ball was just drawn to him. Pace, presesecne, heading, tackling he had it all he was a master. A joy to watch. He made his partners in central defense better as well. He radiated confidence. Won a couple of trophies at Villa they had no right to, almost the league as well, they threw it away. Think he won footballer of the year that year, when defenders never won it. World class.

Mark Lawernson deserves a shout, he was a class defender scuppered by injuries though. Steve Highway to, though never showed as much as he could for Ireland. Whealan on his day but injuries as well scuppered him.

Duff and Robbie were good players perhaps just behind the above with Sheeds.

All opinions mind.

Then there is Kevin Moran who deserves a special mention for being a class half back for those raised on songs and stories bagging a couple of All Ireland’s. lol
Moran can fcuk off, dirt bag of a player compared to McGrath and in the 85 FA Cup Final nearly broke Reidy in half due to his poor play. He was a sunday league dog. When you compare him to McGrath it I is like comparing a Lada to a Lamborghini

Kev was a much better Galiec Football player then a football player.

One of the first modern attacking half backs and a joy to behold.

Snagged a couple of All Ireland’s before Utd wouldn’t let him play for Dublin anymore after showed he up back at Utd with a concussion and a bandaged head after playing for Dublin.

Went on of course to win medals at club and played in the World Cup, instead of togging out for the Dubs.

Unlucky Kev! lol

Is it still 2021? Why dafuq people on about Moran, mcgrath and sheedy? They had their time, we might sign no one else this summer, sure as heck we won't sign them!

I'm still hoping for RB and RW, don't like all these stories linking James with Milan, but until it happens it's just clickbait

In light of current traumas a collective decision has been made to return to the 80s.

Bare with me while I back up the DeLorean and me and the Doc will get her up to 88 miles per hour, via 1.21 Gigawats.
