Me too, I loved Sheedy because he played for us and played for us, what a wand he had. The others though were walking into any team anywhere in the world and just fitting right in and improving it.
Ive just never seen a better defender than McGrath, people talk about Bekenbaur, before my time, McGrath was imperious at his peak, it was just natural and easy for him, he defo has to be my no 1, though it’s tough company. He had this radar, right place right time - alo the time, I’ve never seen in game intelligence like his, his reading of the game was impeccable. The ball was just drawn to him. Pace, presesecne, heading, tackling he had it all he was a master. A joy to watch. He made his partners in central defense better as well. He radiated confidence. Won a couple of trophies at Villa they had no right to, almost the league as well, they threw it away. Think he won footballer of the year that year, when defenders never won it. World class.
Mark Lawernson deserves a shout, he was a class defender scuppered by injuries though. Steve Highway to, though never showed as much as he could for Ireland. Whealan on his day but injuries as well scuppered him.
Duff and Robbie were good players perhaps just behind the above with Sheeds.
All opinions mind.
Then there is Kevin Moran who deserves a special mention for being a class half back for those raised on songs and stories bagging a couple of All Ireland’s. lol
