The squad is already robust and solid in defence.

We need players who score and create goals.

But sure, lets buy more CBs, cos reasons.

Better CBs...not more in quantity. Sell some...

I think a forward player of some sort is definitely required. No King or Tosun, so aforward seems a necessity to me.

A CB could only be one out one in because numbers wise we are fine.

I agree about CM, but again one in, one out.

RB essential.

Backup keeper essential.

I very rarely post in this thread, but why are folk saying CB is a priority?

You could argue that a couple of better ones wouldnt be the worst idea, and with unlimited budgets etc, fine.

Or have ours broken?

The turn and run buttons arent working on some of them.

Literally no need for a CB right now, Godfrey and one of Keane or Mina is a great starting pair, along with Holgate as the #4. Not even getting into Branthwaite.

We need another CM for depth, because while our midfiled has been great when healthy, thats been rare. We need a top scoring winger badly. Then we need a RB. Thats a top 4 squad, but would be best if we added a real GK and another forward.

Godfrey is great
Holgate is a great option

To concede less goals and to create more chances we need to do more than having Keane and Mina act as an anchor deeply weighing down the back line.

We need a young central midfielder to rotate in for Allan.

We need a monster to partner Doucoure in the centre.

We also need a right back.

We need to be solid. We can add the cherries on top once weve got the defence and midfield sorted.

I propose the reason our midfield is poor is because we sit so deep and the midfield is porous. Need to sign the flash if you want to adddress that.

I want koulibaly (for example) and play much further forward, something Carlo has stated we can’t do with Keane and Mina, to compress the park. Maybe then our players can actually have some ball? What are our possession stats this season, that’s a symptom of our pragmatic but utterly necessary approach to football, that must be addressed and I propose we do by playing higher up the pitch. It means Mina and Keane don’t play, but that’s how it has to be. But it means tearing down what has been our strength, will be interested in what happens. I think no new CB means more of this deep lying rope a dope.

Yep...fast right back and centre back added alongside Godfrey and Digne mean we can play higher up the pitch = playing on the front foot.

Adding athletic centre mids also means that:

1: The opposition cant put the ball over the top as our defenders are quick and gobble them up all day.

2: The opposition needs to play through our central midfield of Allan / Doucoure / monster and we have depth.

It should have us closer to the opposition goal and therefore able to create more chances.


Sell Mina and Keane and sign one super u23 centre back.

Sell Kenny and sign Aarons

Sell Gomes, Iwobi, Delph, Bernard and sign a young player to rotate with Allan.

Sell Kean and sign a monster central midfielder

Any funds Moshiri makes available we can then use for an attacking player.

That could be a very good team.

I'd also like a new GK but not sure that looks like happening even before Pickford has found a way to be half decent again. Obviously my pick for RM would be Buendia which takes away some of the need for a replacement to be a high level ball player in theory but I'd still like to see an upgrade.

How can you not have Godfrey at CB. I don’t see Keane & Mina anywhere near the first 11 in 18 months and one probably gone.

Also I’d rather more power & speed than Buendia.

Forgot to mention Rafael Silva (been linked every year for 6 seasons) at Benfica linked.

Everton playing there now as well...he has better in 1 in 2 for goals and assists.

Because minimum one time a game he loses track of someone and it ends up in a chance.

Speed and power isn't everything for me. My feeling is that isn't as much of what we're missing as people make out. DCL and Richarlison aren't slow, and DCL is definitely not lacking in power.

Okay maybe we should rephrase.

To however we currently want to play that isn't totally sluggish in midfield, he is one of our most important players, because he has the physical attributes that none of the others do.

I think that's a pretty fair assessment in all honesty.

It's no surprise that Gomes has looked better when he's played alongside Doucoure, for example.

Exactly we have nobody else who replicates what Doucoure does box to box. He also showed at Watford he can be more attacking if we had another athletic player in there.
