Yep I did, and honestly I still think the effect of it is a bit overblown. They were too quick with the estimates of its increased transmissability to be plausible IMO. Remember they said it was more lethal too with no evidence - that didn't fly and they quietly binned that claim in short order.
My recollection is a bit different. I thought they said there was no evidence yet that it was more lethal, just more infectious. I recall you being dubious of the 70% figure and how they came to that conveniently so quickly.

So you are in agreement it is not ‘far and away’ then. The wave currently in Europe is not thought by experts to reach its peak for a week or 2 yet.
...and you know why their death rate will get up near the UKs? Yes, because Johnson wouldn't take his own scientists advice to lock down in autumn...which then provided the conditions for the UK Virus to be created and spread across the continent.

They're still saying now that it's 30 to 100% more lethal.

I don't buy it personally. I think the problem is its comparing apples and oranges because of limited data samples, lockdown variables and so on.

These will be the same scientists who told him on the 10th March that we were 4/6 weeks behind Italy. Then on 13th March said oops sorry, we were working on data 2 weeks old.

Just saying.

I know they've said more recently that they think it may be a bit more lethal, but I haven't seen that 100% figure quoted.

Hospital figures - 15 deaths were announced today, down 33 on yesterday and down 16 on last Sunday. All 15 deaths were in English hospitals, down 26 on yesterday and down 8 on last week. The 7 day rolling average falls to 39.29

All settings - for the 28 day cut off, 10 deaths were announced today, the same total as yesterday and down 9 on last Sunday. The 7 day rolling average falls to 34.86

For the 60 day cut off, 18 deaths were announced today, down 5 on yesterday and down 14 on last Sunday. The 7 day rolling average falls to 83.57

Sorry for source but quickest one I could find.

Just don't buy it personally, think it'd need more longitudinal study to be verifiable IMO.

Acknowledge that other leaders have as well then, fair is fair
The leadership in France over the vaccines has been appalling. If you're going to make a statement about a vaccine then stick with it. The confusion has probably cost lives. The AZ vaccine will save lives even if it'll take some from side effects. But until a greater supply of other vaccine becomes availabe to sideline it, it should have been taken...once the data was in on efficacy for over 65s.

You think the problems in France are just down to to them mucking around with the vaccines?

Ferguson was part of SAGE and his advice along with many others was we faced the loss of hundreds of thousands unless a lockdown was called...which was called, just way too late.

He went for the economy first and that's why we ended up here with the worst fatality rate of 126,000 lives lost.
