I think he's fighting a losing battle. No one other than maybe a few United or Big Red supporters thinks this is a good idea.

I heard a segment on 5 live earlier about this and the plans were ridiculed.
He should get Eni Oluko on to really sell it to the masses.

Do you honestly think any team finishing 4th deserves to enter a competition called the Champions League?

The Champions League is a name, a legacy from the past, the best teams usually come from a select group of countries with the odd exception such as PSG from Qatar...er... I mean France.

Spain, England, Germany and Italy, any top four side in these leagues are usually far stronget than 'champions' of other 'lesser' leagues. The best competition is usually involving the best teams, the best teams are more or less concentrated in these leagues

You could have an infinitely weaker competition involving just the champions, where the champions of Sweden may get far, but that would involve smaller clubs with fewer household names or star players and poorer football. Commercially it would be a disaster.

imagine coming up with an idea so offensive that even Tories think is too much in favour of the rich

I think Tory FC will be absolutely astounded that their chums in government have released this statement, and opposed it so strongly.

Murderpool really haven't read the mood of the room here, and the opportunism on the back of the Covid crisis is diabolical.

It really does show how abhorrent the proposal is if this unfeeling, cruel, dictatorial shithouse of a government think its so bad!

Couple of things I'm thinking of both to do with the actual mechanism of the two teams losing their place.
Firstly, suppose if either Utd or RS found themselves in one of those places. A bit far fetched but for the sake of the argument can you imagine the corrupted goings on behind the scenes to ensure that didn't happen
And secondly anyone remember the chaos that went on when they reduced the league from 22 teams?

Clearly pushing to have the likes of LFC and United to have a bigger say on getting more money from overseas TV rights. They will argue their “brand” brings the money in so we should get more than everyone else.
Liverpool and United don’t do anything with a view to helping anyone else, they do it to help themselves

Both sold their souls for the corporate dollar.

Not sure why you're telling me that mate. I was pointing out that whether a team finishes 4th or 7th in the PL it hardly diminshes an already ridiculous competition.
