Club Statement: Coronavirus

The problem football is struggling with given the Covid 19 pandemic, and will ultimately fail to deal with, is that there is too much football.

There used to be the League and the FA Cup, a couple of Home internationals at the end of the season, a knockout European Cup and a 16 team World
Cup every 4 years. We loved it as it was and the domestic rot started with the introduction of the bloody League Cup. The bloated CL and WC together
with the Euros and other international competitions have led to us losing control of what was once quite simple.

That is spot on.;)

This behind closed doors that my red mates keep banging on about, does anyone know how i s going to work.? Is they seem sure it's going to happen.

Behind closed doors still needs, Ambulance(s) and Medical Staff, Stretcher carriers etc - who all have far better and much more important things to do for the foreseeable future! Particularly when they are saying the first peak of this thing is still weeks away! Just can’t see it happening myself!

Well call out the clubs that you think will do it mate. Name and shame them.

Assuming everything is void, I would have very little doubt that Leeds & WBA would be fighting their case, I would suspect SUFC & MUFC would consider their options & i can guarantee you multiple clubs (probably collectively) would be taking legal action if they were forced to return TV money (circa $200m per club). Can you imagine Sullivan, Gold and co just handing back that kinda money and saying "fair enough"

This is a global crisis and frankly, football is utterly irrelevant in the grand scheme of things, but when this eventually passes, no matter much damage is done, the same grubby, self motivated greed will sadly prevail after in football & that's why despite the moral shame, I am sure the legal route will be taken by some, if not many. All we can hope is the society in general changes, but shame is not something to stop football club owners.

Perhaps CAS or someone similar might be able to pre-empt the legal challenges with some sort of "all decisions to restart football" are final.

No Liverpool?

No Liverpool?

Assuming it is void, what do they have to appeal? Poor us, we didn't get our trophy?

I think all grounds for such will be on loss of revenue; Liverpool wouldn't have a case, it's just bad luck

My entire point here is based on the premise that Greed and revenue will prevail ahead of the right ethical or moral thing to do

A lot of companies and individuals are losing revenue/earnings. We can't all sue.

I think the league will take their chances and void it due to simple practicalities. If someone goes to litigation then good luck challenging a decision based on emergency government advice (and subsequent law) in response to an ‘act of God’.

The threat of potential legal cases should really be no concern to the football decision makers at this time.

Why would any team,sky/BT agree to losing half the games next season to play 9 or so this season?
This season was all but over anyway. Liverpool were just two games away from winning the title. I honestly think if they had won the title there would be a very different conversation by now, clubs fighting for top four, Europe or relegation would be the only thing to give it any relevance.

I don't know what the solution to season 19/20 is but as far as I am concerned it cannot interfere with the following season.

If season 20/21 is sacrificed for season for 19/20 there will be zero interest in watching football on television after just a few games as most clubs will have nothing to play for.
Are pubs around the country going to pay SKY thousands of pounds for the season just to have nobody watching football.

Season 20/21 would be starting from scratch with all the hope and optimism that a new season brings.
In all honesty I think that if the new season were to be compromised just so that the old season could finish some games then I think I would save myself some money and cancel my subscription to SKY sports . What would there be to watch ?

I think television companies will take a practical view of this. Sport was halted through no fault of anybody.

A new season starting for sports starved supporters is exactly what they would want.

The injustice of Liverpool maybe not being able to finish out the season and the question if they could repeat the feat would just heighten the drama.

At the end of the day it will all come to money for each individual club... I doubt that too many will stress over Liverpool not being able to win the title on the pitch.

It's already happening in the insurance industry - if companies have a chance to fight legal challanges for loss of earnings they all will
They can sue but there is no guarantee they will win, even if they do the insurance companies simply will not be able to pay and will file for bankruptcy... these are unprecedented times. Anything that happened before will count for nothing here.
