Pickford's OK. He's not the main problem.
That's the problem though.

Always the age old "he's not the main problem"...

So because he's not the main problem, we will just allow him to remain in goal, make mistakes, get bullied by the crowd when we play away, not come for crosses, make simple saves look spectacular, and ultimately cost us points.

But hey, he's not the main problem.

It's all Pickford's fault. What is? Don't know. Best ask those who drone on with constant criticism. He is today's and yesterday's whipping boy I suppose. Some might disagree and say Davies is the current whipping boy. Now there is a player with critical deficiencies. Not sure Pickford's deficiences are critical.

It's not all Pickford's fault, but there is a significant amount of data that suggests he is not very good at saving shots, which remains the core role of a Keeper, despite the increased need to a quarterback / distributor of the ball.

Pickford has an average save % of .632 this season, the 15th worst (of 19 who have 1000 mins or more) in PL, that is based on 87 shots on target conceded this season. Should we have a keeper delivering an "Average" save % of 0.701, based on the 19 keepers, you are talking about 6 goals less conceded; which weighted over the entire season would be 10.36 goals.

That is a massive shift in your defense.

If he wasn't English and somewhat immune to national criticism as a result, he would be a championship keeper know for pulling off the odd worldy

Unfortunately any deficiency for a goalkeeper is critical. Last line of defense and all that.......
People have sussed him out that he can be got at by the crowd and if you put the slightest bit of dip or swerve on a shot he flaps at it.

Given the amount of changes needed elsewhere on the pitch, i wouldn't be swerving him just yet.

There's massive holes in that data though.

I don't think people are saying that though, just a case of there being more pressing areas to sort first.

Hate these stupid statistics about percentages of this and that compared with somebody else. Who on earth wastes their time clocking up who runs faster or further or on average catches the ball more often than others? Meaningless in my 'umble opinion. The media do it all the time.

there sure are;

there definitely are & it's not ideal, but it's a decent indicator over a considerable length of time
Not really when you consider the data that emerged a few weeks ago that says the chances we give up are on average (by quite a significant margin from 3rd iirc) the 2nd best “quality” of chances of any team in the league.

We give up fewer goalscoring chances than all but 4 sides, but when we do, they’re chances that are much much easier than anyone else’s... so with that in mind, Pickford’s save ratio is bound to be lower than it would be if we were giving up a more “normal” distribution of chances.

Has anyone got Foster Fraser's statistics? How many time he goes to the nearest post and kicks it. Is it Foster Fraser then
