Nico Kovac

Leaving aside the talk about Brands being 100% behind Silva and wanting a stay of execution; he'd have been making tentative contact for weeks. That's just part of the job. Thursday night onwards a shortlist would be in place and activated. I think Kovac was one and he's been done now. Next three will be done this week at the latest. Then decision time.

Outside chance the new man is in for the United game, realistically the game after.
I think it’s done, probably be announced on Monday or even tomorrow as today was Fergy day(still Saturday to me)

Can somebody tell me why he deserves to manage our football club, 3 foreign managers in the past years, all 3 stuck to his own football principles, all 3 were too stubborn to change the way they manage to suit the environment and current situations and all 3 turned out garbage. All 3 were also of the same ilk as niko Kovac in regards to non of them have actually achieved anything spectacular in football management?? Does somebody know something about this guy that I’ve missed? Swings and roundabouts all the time!

Niko Kovac, the former Bayern Munich manager who won recently the german domestic treble in 18-19, is the same ilk as Marco 'never-come-from-behind' Silva, Ronald Koeman, who did okay with southampton for a bit, and some fella who won the FA cup and got relegated in the same season?

Meanwhile, you want us to get Arteta in, who somehow fits the bill but Niko doesn't.
We need to get Mikel Arteta in now before arsenal do, he’s the next generation of manager and has been tutored by the best. He understands the modern game unlike most of these managers nowadays, the games changing and this would be the ideal chance for us to change with it

Surely a troll.

Do people usually count the german supercup, community shield, etc as part of a double or treble? I feel like I've never seen it before.

So we have a shortlist so far of

Kovac
Gallardo
Vitor

Any others that anyone's aware of?

names who are deffo not on our shortlist

Howe
Benitez
Moyes

Gallardo the only one on the list id be impressed with.

Hmmm, I thought you were dead set on Sir Duncan only being in for 1 game?

Personally I dont think Kovac was there for any sort of interview, I just think he was there, but if he wasnt on the shortlist, him popping in to watch a match might make him be!

You know we could need the time, there could be a few managers "worth" waiting for.

Im not suggesting we have a realistic chance with any of these names, im just spitballing, BUT.

Poch might have said not atm, he might be waiting to see if he gets other offers.
Gallardo might want to play his cup final first.
Carlo might be waiting for the sack.
Jesus might wanna play his World Cup.

You know its a big decision for any manager, so its not something that can be rushed, if we want a quick appointment Moyes could be at FF within the hour.

Anyway that win today has lifted a bit of the pressure, we are still down the bottom of a very compacted league, bar the top 4, a few wins and we flying high, but some more defeats and we are back deep in the brown stuff. Its a very important decision and im fully confident that everything will be considered properly.

If Ferguson gets the united game then it surely must be Gallardo.

Gallardo maybe. The others I dont see.

I dont expect a big wait. Not mid-season. A defeat at united, the board know, will have nerves jangling; the Silva thing was so strung out that I fail to believe that back channels weren't being used by the DoF to sound out candidates.

Getting shut of Silva with no successor in place does not seem credible....even Moshiri had Silva 'sorted' the week after Koeman was sacked.

No, something is afoot.

We'll know by midweek i think.

He did more than a Moyes at Frankfurt, he actually won something.

There were somewhat mitigating circumstances at Bayern with a bunch of their players all aging beyond usefulness at the same time.

Spot on with his standing in the game though, I don't get why some people are seemingly baffled as to why he would consider us (or indeed us consider him), why wouldn't he?

Doesnt make sense to me why we would want him.

Hope not.

Very peculiar

This! Everyone seems to go weak at the knees when a young foreign coach is linked. The game is so superficial nowadays.

I want battling football, and today we got some. Dogs of war beats the tripe we have been served up for the last few years in my opinion.

We are never going to be world beaters. But watching passion and endeavor on the pitch succeeding more than makes up for this for me.

Can’t say I am an expert in German football, but when I watched the league trophy presentation (by chance) last season they said that it was the squad who won that title. Basically they were so good and experienced they were able to make up for Kovac’s deficiencies (as they saw it)

This season they have no Robben. It’s like Barca missing Messi.

Teams can still go from mid-table to winners without "sexy football". I reference Simeone often because I'm a fan of his style. He's a pipe dream for Everton, but his blueprint taking Atletico from pure mediocrity to one of the world's best teams was a focus on protecting the 18 yard box, staying narrow to prevent space for the killer passes and raising as much hell on the counter as possible.

I like that.

They reminded me very much of the old Everton teams under Moyes. But with better players, obviously! Had our luck in cup finals!
