After Newcastle away last season I had temporary insanity and thought he should go.

But the team did rally quite well afterwards with some decent results, albeit with nothing in particular to play for and not achieving UEL qualification.

With more new players in, even taking everything else out of the equation, it makes no sense at this point to call his tenure into any sort of serious question. And I would imagine that isn't even anything other than an afterthought for Brands. I would expect Brands to routinely have his eye on the potential next manager here for common sense contingency planning but that's all for now.

The end of this season is an appropriate time to take stock, before any decision is then taken to renew his contract or otherwise, and to commit to any further spending on more new signings. Even then, that analysis will have to be taken in the context of the potential negative consequences of yet more disruption and who may potentially be available as a replacement.

Everything at this stage seems to point to the club wanting continuity and allowing the manager time and patience, and avoiding unless absolutely necessary, the upheaval we had between the end of Martinez and the end of Allardyce.

If we don't qualify for UEL at the end of the season I think there are legitimate reasons for deciding against an extension at that point (and in practical terms, that would equate to a sacking) but there is a lot of football to be played between now and then.

Well said.... Reason triumphs over Treason!

Thats basically Everton for the last 15 years though,no pressure put a decent run together,it just seems like every season is a re-run,start off looking unfit, after cup exits put a little run together, build up hope for the new season and repeat

Yep. I tend to take form when you have nothing to play for with a pinch of salt. It says more about you when you deliver when it matters. Its not rocket science. Good sides turn up and get the job done when there is something to play for.

Its not something I see changing in the near future either,as a club we float along,we are comfortable,we by competent players at best and the club just seems to want to be liked by being a shade of beige,I havent got a clue how to change that outlook

I hate when Evertonians fight I feel like when i was a child my parents would box each other silly and I was hiding I the kitchen feeling powerless. It breaks my heart that we can't just get along.

I get that mate, but he is one year into a three year deal in the midst of a huge amount of churn in the squad which was/is deemed necessary due to the mistakes of his predecessors. We have a squad IMO good enough to finish seventh at a minimum and if we fail to do so, then as I see it, there is a decision to be made next May in that scenario. We do have to hold the manager of the day (and all at the club) to a high standard if we are ever to improve but I think doing so before next summer at the earliest would be seen as hasty in the extreme, barring some horrific run of form.

Im not advocating sacking him or claiming his as a messiah,I said in another post we just seem to drift along no matter whos in charge,we have expected losses,we buy competant middle ground players and employ midrange managers etc, thats gone on for years, even a change of ownership doesnt seem to change the mindset, and I doubt anything will change in the near future because the club is comfortable as it is

Agree, we need to accept we will never be anything but the 2nd and least successful team in this City, we are not going to be in any place to compete with the RS any time in the next 10 years...... Since the PL started there has been 54 Merseyside Derbies, RS have won 23, us just 9!!! 9 in over 20 years!!!

Everton just demoralises anything that touches it eventually......

So supercrock Jimmy Mac turns out for Palace and wins at Man U, and Newcastle (who someone on here reckoned were the worst team in the Prem) go and win at Spurs. Results we can only dream of. Meanwhile, we’re losing at Villa, a team I fully expect to finish bottom six. Sick of it.

I look at it a couple of ways, firstly the was gross neglect by the club at the start of the Sky era with left us playing catch up,10 years ago us and the rs were near enough on equal footing, the second thing is we seem to have a safety first policy were if it might be risky then ignore/avoid it,go for the steady safety first option
