so we were not allowed to question Silva when we went on that 3 month run of absolute relegation form ..

ok.

Fine to question him sure but some in here were calling for him to be fired a few months into one one of the hardest ten around jobs in the prem. it was a ridiculous overreaction that was disproved a mere few weeks later and is hopefully going to be squashed for good this season.

He got a lot of stick for problems last season, some of them beyond his control, so he deserves credit for the recent form.

I think he’s doing an absolutely brilliant job with Brands to take us from the nadir of 17/18 and one of the worst squads in our prem history to the team we have now recording 10 clean sheets in 13, 5 wins on the spin at Goodison. We all accepted that it would take years to recover from 17/18 yet because Silva has moved us forward so quickly he’s now a victim of his own success and will undoubtedly be criticised if he doesn’t get top 4 two seasons after we had to get Allardyce in because we looked like we were going down.

He won’t be criticised for not making Top 4, stop making things up.

Standing back, this is a good assessment. Reason to feel optimistic. So many times in recent history this club has been close to being flushed down the loo, now things are a little different.

But I’m not talking about that? All I’m saying is he came in with a reputation as someone that couldn’t set up a defence properly, he proved for a time that he couldn’t, we criticised him, he turned it around. Fans had a right to criticise him till February.
That is what I'm talking about, having stated it quite a few times

Hardest turn around jobs around LOL

A team that finished 8th under Alladyce that spends gonzalo's every season on players.

I would hate to think how hard it is managing clubs in the bottom half spending a 1/3 of what we do is...

In fairness mate we got 48 points under Allardyce. This season 6th got 72. As a minimum requirement we'd have to improve our total by 50% to make that target.

In that time we have spent around £100 million net (less than most of the sides above us) and reduced the wage bill.

Aston Villa should spank us on Friday because there net spend is twice as much as ours.

Or clubs with greater expectations than 7th, spending 1/3 of what we do.......

For me, the jury is still out on Silva. He's a 6/10 for me thus far. My minimum expectations after last summers expenditure were 7th, best of the rest AND reaching at least the Quarters of one of the domestic cups. That wasn't an optimistic shout. We achieved neither.

After another big summer, I'm asking the same of him. Again, I'd say that's more than fair. If we don't look like we're on course for it by January then I can see the pressure mounting. We got the win without being particularly convincing on Saturday and we weren't at the races against Palace. It seems unfair that we're essentially pinning our hopes for this season on a 19 year old kid, as good as he is. Hopefully he hits the ground running, Iwobi surprises us and Gbamin shows he is far more capable than in his 1st couple of games.

tbh I wanted him gone during that Christmas spell but it was just a reactive feeling because we were so garbage and didn't win anything for like 2 months, Obviously I'll wait till the end of the season before passing judgement now but I can see why people were angry during December till February it was proper grim.
