He was great for us, without a shadow of a doubt, he got us from the bottom to nearly to the top, he gave us something to hope for, but sadly the longer he stayed, the more it became blatantly obvious that he was never gonna break that glass ceiling, yes he didnt have the money, but it wasnt just about money, it was about mindset.

Hes not the manager you employ to make a dent at the top.

Remember we always said, imagine what he could do with money though!

I’d agree to an extent, having Brands and Moyes just wouldn’t work.

I’d openly admit I rated him when he showed up at Hull, I remember them doing a tactical job on us over Xmas and Rom getting us out of jail for a 1-1. That sparked an interest in him and I followed him since. Watching a fair bit of Hull and Watford, I think he has the knowledge, skills and values to succeed. What he hasn’t proven yet is longevity, he tends to get an initial response and then plateaus, though to be fair the situation often dictated the outcome, we aren’t not guilty in that.

I have criticisms of him, the zonal stuff is dire and obvious. But he has turned the oil tanker around on our style of play, with more to come. I think he has gotten better out of some players already here and his signings have carried us largely. I think we were a basket case club, with a bloated low quality playing squad derived of confidence, running at budget deficits. Some of the limits forced on him aren’t of his making but he has managed them, to create a sprit and a togetherness. I believe he’s operating in limits and deficiencies not of his making.

I think his approach is a bit jarring as it’s out of our norm, we are used to a pragmatic approach, he will risk a loss to get a win, their is a whole generation of our support who haven’t lived under that philosophey, it’s new and out of the norm. But I admire me him sticking to that principal.

Like I’ve said, this season results are irrelevant in a way, it’s all about foundations and running the anti virus, it’s a process not an event, it’s making a low quality squad and trying to transition it to a competitive one, slowly raising the quality level from window to window.

I’ll back most mangers as long as relegation isn’t an issue, because I have a philosophey and beliefs about managers as I have said. I think with the right moves and support in the tiers above him in managing the inherited limits, he can progress us.

Next season is a different set of circumstances and expectations though, it’s not a free pass, he needs to be challenging for Europe and improving the boom and bust thing, moving toward consistency.

mate hes gone from flash pressing football, to football without pressing and terrible results, to hoofball, which we all know gets results cos it negates having to actually play football.

Must say after seeing Moyes' comments on the derby he certainly still gets the club/fanbase.

I never liked the idea of him coming back but should Silva go this season or next and we couldnt get a top manager in - I would have him back over someone like Rodgers or Martinez.

Doubt he would work with Brands so it would be a non starter anyway most likely.
He's welcome to come back for a freebie in the hospitality suites any time he likes, but it would be a disaster to bring in another manager who a lot of the fans view as damaged goods.

Enough time has passed for me to be pleased that he restored his reputation a bit at West Ham, but I would have a very hard time getting behind him at Everton again.

Whichever manager we have would face the same challenge of building a team from the disparate parts of previous regimes recruitment requirements.
It is akin to asking Dr. Frankenstein to try to fashion a functional human from the body parts collected by three separate Igors fulfilling three contrasting order lists. It was always going to take time and was always likely to encounter difficulties and detours en-route.
There is a tendency for any critique of our current squad to veer between ‘ useless, sell ‘em all’ and ‘ should be challenging the top 6’. For me the truth is more nuanced, we do have some very good players but as a team they do not compliment each other as yet.
It is getting this blend right that takes time and patience. So far Silva has taken a mid table side and has them , well, mid table , hardly a disaster. What he has had however is time to assess which parts of the team work well together and which need improving. Realistically this can only become apparent under the stresses and strains of a competitive season.
Silva ,working with Brands, will now have a definitive view of the improvements he will wish to incorporate going into next season. If we dismissed him now whoever we appointed would be faced with the same problems and would require time to make his own assessments. We would be losing another season for possibly no gain.
All successful managers have required time, patience and a measure of indulgence to build sustainable winning teams.

Moyes was in my wifes office the other day. Very, very dour apparently.

He'd crumble here now, especially with the money. We'd probably end up with 3 or 4 schneiderlin's. We all know he wasn't great with big money buys, hell he had all the resources at United.... And barely wanted to buy anybody, just go back to what he knew with baines and fellaini.

He needs hard working players to be a success, imagine him having to deal with our current bunch of lazy misfits.

Next five games Nrewcastle away, Chelsea home, West Ham away, Arsenal home, Fulham away. Fully fit squad. One game a week. No excuses. I need to see him deliver at a minimum 7 points from those fixtures to show me some small signs of progress. The only way I could see some light at the end of the tunnel with a lower points haul is if we remain unbeaten but draw a lot of them and fail to get the points due to bad luck.

I think he was definitely perfect for that time in our history, and did a great job. He's slightly old fashioned, or not right for a more ambitious period of time

A GREAT run would be 9 points - amazing.
Newcastle W
Chelsea D
West Ham D
Arsenal D
Fulham W

3 W and 2 L would be decent
1 X W and 2 X D 2 X L would be boring unless we really were unlucky and showed signs of life.

Hoofed? I don't recall that. I remember VVD putting it anywhere at times and we were always winning the ball back in midfield and trying to start a counter with some nice through balls. Yes we played long balls up to DCL and it wasn't working but we were far from Allardyce tactics. My argument on Sunday and I said it before kick off, start Cenk. I felt he would've gave VVD a torrid time.
