You can, quite fairly I think, argue that if Silva had another window and free reign to get who he felt he needed, we'd be playing much better next season

However, it's looking increasingly likely that we're going to really struggle offloading a large chunk of this playing squad, which means that even if Silva has all the right players in mind to make his system work, it's unlikely he'll be able to get them all unless we have the most epic fire-sale in footballing history

Because of that, it might make sense to let him leave at the end of the season and bring in a more tactically flexible coach who can get the existing players performing whilst working with a budget

I don't know who that manager would be, but we've seen enough this season to know that it isn't Silva. Silva is all about the system first and everything else second, as most managers of his ilk are. If he has the players for the system then that's not a problem, but he hasn't had them this season and it's unlikely he'll have them next season either, so at that point it kind of becomes hard to justify him getting another season, because he isn't going to change

That's the biggest issue really. If we had money to spend then I'd actually be fine with giving him another window in order to get the playing staff how he liked it, but sadly we're not a Chelsea or Man City like club who can afford to do that season on season

Brands obviously has a role to play in getting these players off the books to free up space on the wage bill for the players Silva wants (It seems like they're in agreement as to the type of player they want to sign, which is a positive and something that might not be the case if a new manager came in) but that's easier said than done

It's the one big flaw of the DoF system to be honest. Managers are relegated to the role of coaches and you're relying on them and the DoF to agree on who to sign. It means that if Silva did go, we could end up getting in a new manager who wouldn't agree with what Brands wanted, thus leading to further issues. It also doesn't help that the DoF essentially makes a manager even more expendable, which is probably why you see so many clubs having issues with players downing tools these days. They know the manager is secondary to the DoF in the power structure, and thus they know it's easy just to sit tight and wait for the manager to get booted out by the DoF and give it a go with the new guy. Managers just don't command the respect they used to because they aren't really the boss anymore, the DoF is

Excellent post

I defo don't want him sacked before summer at earliest, but more important to us than the manager next season is actually the work on getting as much of the dead weights off the wage bill as possible.

Silva, or whoever the manager would be, would be dealing with an imperfect squad again next season if we have our hands tied trying to complete the clear out. It's a fair point to make that a different coach might be better suited to work with what they have if we do have to wait out a slower squad refresh than we would have wanted.

why does it keep getting said that silva failed at watford. they had just finished 17th when he took over and he was sacked when they were 10th. some would describe 17th to 10th as a resounding success. if you wanna say his watford tenure was a fail you'll have to bang in a good reason why, and 'watford fans wanted him gone' is not a good reason, the vast majority of football fans want their manager gone as soon as they lose a few games, try giving a few facts why he 'failed'
He failed because he lost 13 of 24 games winning 6, conceding 31 goals in those defeats.

Classy move that, if true.

Hardly surprising.

Shes a horror like however I had to agree with her comments.

It seems everyone fans and other clubs alike can see this bloke is in over his head at a club of our size apart from the actual owners.

If he gets next season its a damning indictment on this club. Just dont see the clubs plans surely with BMD you would think they would want a proven manager taking us into the new ground with a united fanbase rather than a shakey novice with a divided fanbase.

These days I’m enjoying watching EFL games, they tend to offer more excitement than most Prem games imo, with players showing a lot more effort (and skill) than our lot. I know it’s very unlikely we will go down, but from what I’ve seen, I doubt we’d finish in the top 10 of the Championship if the worst was to happen. It’s vital we grab another 6 points from somewhere, and quickly.

If we lose all our remaining games we will probably get relegated. Not likely, but can anyone see where our next win is coming from? It will be 1 - 0 as we haven't got more than one goal in us. But can our defence hold out for 90 minutes?
