Never that simple.
Not yet...not quite enough straws for that camels back just yet - take it game by game, then sack him.

Silva 4/1 2nd fav to go
Arteta 9/2 2nd fav to come in
Moyes 10th @ 25/1
Just sayin like
I'd take Arteta. He'd have us playing actual football. That's the sort of risk manager I'd prefer to give a shot to, as opposed to bottom of the table relegation candidates

In Silva I trust.

He’s got his critics and he has made mistakes. He’s a young hungry manager. He’s got the remainder of the season to turn around the critics and identify what he needs for next season. I would hope he knows what kind of striker he wants and additionally what CM partnership he would like to bring in.

It’s heen said his preferred CM scenario is two box to box CMs. He doesn’t have one at this time. I’m confident he gets in players to suit his preferred system and we will look better.

Perhaps the persistence with this 4-2-3-1 is playing to the strengths of what we do have.

Obviously, it isn’t working - but what other formations can we play to bring out the best of what’s available?

The main provider of chances has been Bernard, but the chances have not been taken. Silva started well but looks out of his depth at present, maybe because we are not getting the rub of the ball, and some key players are out of form. Silva needs to be tougher with any lack of effort or hiding on the pitch and start dropping people. It was sensible to drop Coleman but he is back now, and was one of the better players yesterday. Still needs replacing ,though. THe only way to get rid of the defensive malaise,in particular our terrible defending of set pieces is by hard work on the training pitch, and getting rid of any shirkers. The malaise has spread to Digne who is a brilliant player when on form, and this is what happens. There is no easy answer, but this is what I'd to until the season end, if I was Silva and intent on keeping my job and building a platform for next season...….

Pickford..keeps his place.A good keeper who must be effected by whates happening in front of him.

Back four.. Any dip or further slowing down by Coleman, play Kenny. Our best, most consistent centre back is Kurt Zouma .Keane is good when on form. Honestly, as back up I'd rather a fit Jags than Mina. Digne keeps his place.

If Gomes is physically shattered LEAVE HIM OUT until he isn't. Gana plays because of his energy. Siggy is worth his place because even when not at his best,he is likely to score.

Front three..the secret is the blend. If Tosun plays, he needs to be able to run on to chances..have him doing a different job and theres no point in playing him, but play to his strength and he can finish well. 'Wingers' Look at form and again play to the particular strengths of whoever gets the nod. Lookman is I think the one to come of the bench against a tiring defence, but get him to be more direct. Walcott is more valuable than a lot think, his abiilty to get in behind defences at pace is an asset. Use him in that way,or try him in the middle. Bernard is our most hard working and creative player. Use him on the right and Richarlison on the left, provided Richarlison cuts out his play acting...if he doesn't do that, we have alternatives so leave him out. So...my first eleven, and with firmer more specific coaching by Silva, if he has it in him...
Pickford Coleman Keane, Zouma, Digne Gomes Gana Siggardson Bernard Tosun/DCL Richarlison/Walcott/Lookman

Writing the above made me realise what a hard job Silva has with the present squad. Brands and Mosh have a very big contribution to make to the future of Everton, and they should be talking to each other and making plans now for next season.

He could literally just have them practice defending set pieces each week. Or perhaps sack off the zonal marking.

Or play to any of our strikers strengths.

We could give Silva 11 new players and we'd still be dreadful because his tactics are so painfully vanilla.

Fair enough, I appreciate the defending is woeful. It’s clear he needs to tweak that - amongst other changes. It’s a big problem.

Hopefully we can show some positive signs against Huddersfield, need to bounce back.

I think any judgement will be based on our position relative to the club in 18th.

It's probably unlikely that the bottom 5 sides will all put a run together capable of making the board jittery enough, assuming our 'form' was to continue to deteriorate simultaneously over the next 3 or 4 games. We have a horrible home run against the big sides to come.

The issue as I see it is that Silva has shown little or nothing to make people give him the benefit of the doubt, other than rely on "we can't sack him because of X/Y/Z" excuses that are in all honesty, nothing other than a sad indictment of the state of the club today, and nothing that reflect positively on Silva.

I do think he is in danger territory and rightly so. This is Premier League football, and like it or not, a slump this long which will soon approximate a third of the league season, with generally abysmal performances, and two embarrassing early cup exits, is going to see him under scrutiny. That's what he signed up for. His reputation is on the line here, and if there is some X Factor about him, he needs to show it urgently.

My gut feeling now, and as a fan of 40 years, is that there isn't going to be some miraculous upturn at the end of this. He will leave, it's just a case of when. The wheels look to have come off and we have to adapt, yet again.

It probably means in all likelihood that we'll stumble through the next few weeks and months. The question then is, do they give him a budget for the summer or has all confidence in him evaporated. Who else might be available, and more importantly willing, other than results between now and May, will probably swing a decision one way or another.

If he goes, then given the state we're in, its either an interim appointment on an 18 month contract, and/or someone that Brands is familiar with and confident that could stabilise us. There is no silver bullet, and I have thought for some time, that it may take at least 2, if not 3, sound managerial appointments in succession, over a decade, to turn us around. We have to acknowledge how far we have fallen and adapt a horses for courses approach, whilst at the same time avoiding another demoralising Allardyce type appointment. It would be sheer madness to appoint another flavour of the month candidate who knows nothing of what he would be walking into.

Another fine mess.

Just a note about zonal marking. It seems to me that if the attackers overload one zone....does that make the rest of the defenders of other zones redundant? Yesterday, who was responsible for the zone containing the three Millwall players when they got their third goal?

A rough patch as you put it is generally 3/4/5 games... not 18... including being knocked out of the cup and conceding 6 in a home game
3/4/5 games is a rough patch for a top team.... Thats not us. We had whole seasons of rough patches under Moyes and were better off keeping him. As much as fans would like to think we've evolved into a club that could be disrupting the top 6 due to the smoke thats been blown up their arse... We're really not. Feels like we're chasing the dragon right now

I'm not saying that anyone is wrong to demand the best. I'm just saying that instability is not good and unless things deteriorate to the point his position is not tenable, we'd be much better off trying to see it through to the end of the season and review from there.

No one demanding the best. We demand 7th and be able to beat crap at home this season.
