He's one of the best around at what he does and yet most on here are happy to see him go?? The fee is irrelevant, we spunked 50 million this time last year on Walcott and Tosun, how did that work out?? What player is going to come to us (a team further away from the champions league than we've ever been)in January that is at a similar or higher standard to gueye?? Madness!! Get rid of the deadwood first not one of our vital players!!!
The thing is Brands is here now, Walcott and tosun wouldn’t have been signed by him.
And as you say we are quite a way off the champions league teams, and Gana isn’t getting us near them. It could be another 2 or 3 years at least before we do. And Gana will be 33 then. We need to get rid of the deadwood to, but potentially getting another 35/40 mil to go in the pot for a limited footballer who’s nearly 30. Is to good to turn down.

No chance he goes this window

Lots more deadwood to shift before gana. And as mentioned we would have to spend higher wages and fees to replace him with someone as good or better.
No smoke with out fire as they say, loads of rumours floating around from a number of French sites, saying his head been turned and he wants to go. Look at it from Gana’s POV. Nearly 30 gets more money than he’s on now, will be playing in the champions league and is going to win things.

And if you listened to what was said at the AGM, we will be targeting young players, so we sign a 21/22 midfielder from the French, German or Spanish leagues, there will be no way they are anywhere near on what Gana is, so I think you’re wrong about the wage bit.

I dont understand how people can want us to finish in a higher league position and win cups when they also want to hang onto players whose values will drop so much that were stuck with them and cant shift them...

Surely its just common sense to sell older players and bring in young ones to develop with much higher potential.

Probably cos its very dangerous.

Selling good players to buy potentially good players is quite hard, for every Kylian Mbappe there are 100 Ravel Morrisons.

No one has a problem with it in isolation, but seriously, who on earth is going to play in the midfield when he's gone?

The issue is finding not one replacement, but two legit CMs/DMs that can make us better. That seems like a tall order. But yes, if we can find replacements, fine. He can go. This isn't like Chelsea selling Kante when they've got Jorginho and two other DMs in the team. We've got NO ONE.

Just keep in mind, the best DM in our league, and maybe the best player frankly, is 33.

But again, fine with him going as long as we have replacements. He just holds this team together in so many ways and we are absolutely CRAP without him.

It’s rare we can sign some good young CM who is better than Gana in January. No sane club will sell unless you pay over the odd and it’s likely the new player has no PL experience and needs time to adopt. No point of selling him when there are loads of deadwood around too. I don’t want to see Davies playing there instead of Gana.

We simply sign a replacement now and another in the summer...we arent getting top 4 or being relegated...we should be using every window to sell and buy.

How is it rare to sign good players in Jan? Other clubs do it.

Again, youre doubting your username...

Realistically if we can get 40m for a 29 year old midfielder and replace him with someone as good and younger, that's good business. Obviously the second half is a big "if" given how hard it is to sign good players in that position -- look at arsenal's transfer history for proof.

Sadly we don't actually have much to play for this season, barring an improbable run in the cup, so maybe it's a good time for us to consider selling to reinvest in young talent.
