Been consistently one of our best performers since joining the club, at times indispensable. £40m is a lot of money for a 29 year old, if we got offered that, we'd have to accept and trust brands to reinvest it smartly.

Would rather tie Gomes to a perm deal in all fairness.

29 isn't old for his position.... And as he's one of our more important players currently we should be keeping him... 40m isn't big money these days...

Next summer we need a Striker (2 really), a right back, a centre back, we might have to replace Gomez again... We need another centre midfielder anyways (because Sneiderlin & Davies)....

That's enough positions to be trying to fill in one window without worrying about replacing Gueye aswell...

I am one of those that thinks Gueye does very well in a limited sense but he isn't the type of player that would be in the side if we were genuine top six contenders and beyond.

From a business prospective his value is probably at the highest it will be now also.

But this has to be tempered by his importance to the team currently. We can't afford a slide down the table which is more likely without him. Making a good return on him in trading terms will be hugely offset if a bottom half finish counts against us in trying to attract the better calibre player in his position in the summer.

If we could get a like for like replacement in now with better technical ability then I would go for it. But that's perhaps asking a lot in January.

It's a difficult call but on balance I would keep him. It's not a game changing amount of money and the potential for disruption when we need to put a run together is too great.

Is there really any justifiable proof that he is so important to us, other than his own personal stats? He's been in our team now nearly 3 years and we have been dire for the majority of that time, with 3 different managers, different players and systems, etc. Our best spell in that time was probably while he was at AFCON, and for every game like Spurs were his fans came out with how much we missed him, we've had an equally inept performance with him in the team.

Arguably our best performance during his time here was Man City at Home, a game he wasn't in country for, and our best result of this season, away vs Burnley, he also didn't play.

Ive heard so many people go on at length about how important he is to the team, yet I've witnessed countless games in which he has offered little, lost possession countless times under no pressure and gifted the opposition the ball, only to come away and read opinions afterwards of how he was immense, and a joy to watch. Its bizarre. Well he is not a joy to watch, he never has been and never will be. He may do a job in clearing up, but this puts him in the same bracket as others like Lee Carsley, Mark Pembridge, Phil Neville, Abel Xavier, Barry Horne, James Mccarthy and the like. All did the dirty jobs, but none were a joy to watch. And if we had ever turned down £30m or the equivalent for any of them, there would've been uproar.

I think he's brilliant at one or two aspects of the game and quite average at others. It all comes down to whether Brands feels he can replace him with a player that ill be ready now. It's good money and ee need to be looking for a more physical box to box player anyway but we also fall to bits without him. Tricky one.

He's one of the best around at what he does and yet most on here are happy to see him go?? The fee is irrelevant, we spunked 50 million this time last year on Walcott and Tosun, how did that work out?? What player is going to come to us (a team further away from the champions league than we've ever been)in January that is at a similar or higher standard to gueye?? Madness!! Get rid of the deadwood first not one of our vital players!!!
