There's been a lot of false optimism in recent years, based on zero logic. We've lost to Arsenal, Man United, Liverpool and Man City away from home and got thrashed by Spurs yesterday. I certainly not defending Allardyce, but a year ago we'd just got a draw against Chelsea at home, drew at Anfield, won at Newcastle and won 3 home games in a month. I really don't think we've made the progress some people think we have. Under Koemann, we put in horrific performances at Burnley, Swansea, Southampton,Watford, Arsenal and Chelsea. We also lost 2 derbies. If you look at DM's last season, we drew at Man City, Liverpool, Spurs and Arsenal. We beat Man United, Man City and Spurs at home, we drew against Liverpool and Arsenal at home. We only lost one home game against Chelsea and we were very unlucky then.
I was one of Moyes biggest critics, but at least our players had heart and we had likable players such as Cahill, Arteta, Pienaar, Jags, Baines and a few others who put in 100% for the club. Nowadays I see players laughing and joking after we lose games, players not bothering to clap the supporters and other types of disrespect towards supporters. I would follow Everton everywhere and anywhere 10 years ago, because I knew the players who put in similar effort to the supporters. I remember the fighting victories against teams like Chelsea, Man City and Man United, where opposition players would leave knowing they'd had to work for a result. John Terry said that Everton were one of the hardest teams to play against, because our players got stuck in and tried hard.
