Sylvain Distin vs you Beauts

I'd prefer a great sweat shirt number with "Distin, called love" personally.

That's for the Mercury fans out there.

Agreed, I meant all our defence. We can't be defending brilliantly if we concede at least a goal a game.

True, to an extent. In that you're right, but it's also not as bad as it seems. We've conceded 7 in 6 games, which is the joint 5th best in the league, believe it or not. So that says to me the problem is that we're not scoring, rather than that we're conceding.

Distin's best moment is scoring off his thigh, by accident.

His worst moment is taking down Liedson against Sporting Lisbon at Goodison. We were 2-0 up and in a strong position. Distin soon saw to that.

I'm sorry guys, call me what you want, but i'd pick Joey Yobo over him any day. Yobo was a real servant to the club, and a good player.

I feel someone stiffed us with this fella...

I think you're forgetting the ridiculous backpass from the infallible Jack Rodwell, to Distin. Overhit, needless and left him in an awkward situation. But hey, it's Rodders. We can't possibly blame him.

I addressed rodders as a "nob head" in the match thread "similar to how i'd call my mate a nob head for doing the same..." and totally agree it was a poor mistake, and indeed, very needless on Jacks behalf.

However, Distin had plenty of time to take him down (which is what inevitably what happened) if he knew he was outpaced (Liedson is also in his 30's), but for some reason waited until he was in the penalty box.

I cannot argue he is poor based on this one event. But this was his worst moment, and also somewhat ironic as he also scored in the very same game, undoing all his 'good' work.

He is 32 years old and has played for 6 clubs previous to Everton, he has never played for France, and we signed him for 5m.

sounds very similar to Gazza, Ginola...who turned up, but aren't we supposed to be moving onward and upward? This to me seems like a 'novelty' buy, and adds to my frustration with Moyes..

Remember what happened to the club we bought him from though...

I'm sure we wouldn't have come steamrolling in with an initial offer of £5m and had it accepted.

Everyone knew we had tonnes of cash after Lescott (which is why we pulled out of the Banega deal), Portsmouth were royally on their arse so they tried to get as much as possible, in this very rare circumstance, we could up our bid healthily.

Plus time was not on our side, what with Lescott being sold so close to the end of the window.

And even then, how little could we have really gotten him for? £4 mil? £3 mil?

All things considered, it wasn't that bad.

In the grand scheme of things 5m for a central defender is indeed not that bad. But I still have major reservations about Distin.

When i see him lining up for the "hoofball" it's face palm mania, but against Fulham Phil Neville was not much better.

*ahem*

Phil Jagielka.

Now, I love Phil. He's an incredible defender. Once he has the ball though, he takes his time, picks out what I can assume is a pass, and then messes it up and hoofs it to the opposition. Distin has indeed done this himself, but actually watch the both of them. Add it up if you will. Distin often passes to Baines, or runs with it a bit. He doesn't hoof it half as much. Oh and I actually remember one of his longballs working, unlike Jags' (Saha vs Chelsea -- wasn't so bad then, eh?)

Neville's terrible for it too, I agree. Another reason I can't wait until Super Seamus is the first choice.
