Do you think silva or brands had anything to do with the Jan signing of cenk and Walcott .silva was gone from watford after are pursuit of him and the surely the wheels were in motion behind the scenes for him to come to us.Always thought it was a lot of money close to 50 million to give BFS when he was always a stop gap .?

Cenk was scouted personally by Moshiri, wasn’t he?

Doesn’t seem like a Silva player to me, though no doubt he’ll still get a tune out of him.

Unlikely.

Seems like it was The Mosh that scouted Tosun if you believe what was said and I wouldnt be surprised if it was The Mosh who had something to do with Walcott with his Arsenal connections.

I suppose we considered both players would be able to make an impact so not really a risk, Walcott is certainly a proven player in this league and 20m is nothing money for a player of his calibre @Zatara , Tosun is more of a risk, but I suppose the thinking was if he flopped here some Turkish fellas would defo give us some dough back for him.

But 1 thing we have seen so far is that The Mosh isnt afraid to back his managers, which lets be honest is something we have been crying out for the last 30 odd years. @davek

Never knew that about mosh and tosun and thinking about the Arsenal connection with Walcott that makes sense
Still baffles me how some think mosh has'ent backed us with money

West Ham were truly tripe - it wasn’t even competitive! They thought they were getting an upgrade on Moyes, but I think he knows the league better. Sure, Pellers won the league, but his performances got gradually worse at Man City and he had inherited Mancini’s team. Also he is coming over after failing in China, which puts the water in backwater!

They also threw some money around, but it was all vanity signings and they failed to invest in a solid defense

Sounds kinda familiar....
I thought Pelligrini was crap at City, to be honest and was not impressed with his hiring.

£20mil is a very good fee and one that we should recoup by selling him in Jan or end of the season.

Marco and Brands i hope can find someone or already have in mind someone to fill the role.

Ive always backed Silva...think hes top notch.

The downside, if there is one, about signing lots of players is that it can take a while for them to become more than the sum of their parts. Or even the sum of their parts. Add that in to having a new manager, with the pre-existing players still getting used to a new way of playing, and things are bound to take a while to settle down. You saw that with West Ham yesterday. Loads of new signings, new manager, new style. Teams like Liverpool and City are adding players into a settled side, into a 3 year project. Teams like that are bound to find it easier to adjust.

I think ya at the match we approached the game in a relaxed mood. We know silva likes to play attacking football, but after two years of fodder under the last two clowns, and the mess than was Roberto, it was a case of “can we play “attacking” football again?”.

The starting lineup didn’t fill me with confidence, two holding midfielders again, and no new boys (as suggested). But Marco had his tactics and the players knew them.

Wolves, strongly tipped to finish above us this season, what with their connections and heavy spending over the last couple of years, were second best most of the day. Jagielka redy will always be acrimonious, (and the fact the free kick position wasn’t picked up) and I still think it was harsh, but it was hugely encouraging after Moyes, Allardyce, Koeman to see, even with 10-men we were still attacking and still being the better team.
It’s very clear what Silva’s aim was, to inject pace and class into the team, and so far Richarlison looks the business, doing what no player has done at Everton for years, getting the ball on the floor and beating the defenders with pace and skill.

I expect there will be some hiccups along the way. Watford lost 5-0 at home to City last season, so you’d be naive to think his tactics are going be perfect every game, but with all due respect to Watford; Bernard, Mina and Digne are a different calibre of player and you’d think we’ll do even better this year.

It’s a telling sign when you leave the ground having been down to 10-men for over half the game and you leave the ground gutted, and the hugely backed home team walk away delighted and goading.

This could be the start of our change, very early days but with 4-5 players get to even be embedded, things should only get better.

Huge game at Goodison on Saturday and hopefully our fans get behind the team, even if it’s going a little rocky on 65 minutes.

Have a feeling we will do a Martinez first season not as good but surprise a few to me we have improved on significant weakness and the only unknowns are how well the new signings will bed

I think he'll opt for the 'tried and tested' current crop for a little while yet yano. He'll see no rush in getting the new fellas straight into the side.

It's essentially a 'throwaway' season this, and I feel weird saying it since it's literally only just started, but we have the quality in the squad to easily finish top half regardless, so I see this as the season Silva (and Brands) calmly slide their feet under the table.
