Are the hipster element of the fanbase holding us back?

Bit of fun, but I’ve long been of the opinion they’re not healthy for Everton. Let me describe the profile:

16-36, will make out that any Everton player from the late 90s was better than any player from the Moyes era (despite most of them probably not even remembering the 90s). Andrei Kanchelksis is their idol and adorns their bedroom walls next to players from 90s Serie A teams.

They have a season ticket but genuinely resent home games, they turn up in a 90s Everton kit or a current away kit nearly always underneath a hoodie even in hot weather and stand there for the majority of the game with their arms folded in slight disappointment as though they’re above the whole idea of Everton at home with 40,000 other plebs. They will scowl at anyone who makes any sort of noise be it cheering, singing or booing as they regard all of this as kopite behaviour.

Oddly though they seem to have a strange fondness for that lot over the park and seem to revel in the idea that bigging them up makes them a better blue somehow. They’ll argue with you that Salah is the best in the world, they deserved to win in Kiev, and that they’ll challenge next season for no reason other than to be weird and hipster.

They loved Ross Barkley but hate Tom Davies (no idea why, he probably would be one of them if he wasnt playing). They won’t hear a word against Leighton Baines or Fellaini.

They live for certain away games where they’ll go and sing songs about certain players that they like (Cenk Tosun being the new hipster favourite) but none really about Everton, then will let off a flare for an equaliser in a 1-1 at Stoke as though we’ve won a cup or something. That one moment will be enough ‘Everton’ to sustain them for the whole season and will feature on all their social media. They seem to select certain ones as well, Sunderland away in the Cup was hipster central as was Nuremberg. They don’t seem to do London though.

For them they are so bothered about their personal hipster image that they don’t want to be associated with a successful team. If they accept kopite superiority willingly and knock Everton at every opportunity then no one can knock them when it inevitably goes wrong and, after all, they’ll never be able to take away that away trip to Turf Moor ‘scenes, limbs, pyro’ (whatever they seem to say when they celebrate other than ‘Everton’). They positively hate us challenging the top 4 or being in the media for anything other than some hipster story about Baines.

In short any successful club need fans who actually want success and want to compete. This element of the fanbase have no interest in this and must be crushed.

Now that Italy are not in the World Cup they’ll be supporting some edgy side like Croatia or Uruguay, and almost certainly anyone but England.

Glorious this, love it....just read it while drinking my locally sourced deconstructed flat white made with a 50/50 mix of goat milk and chlorophyll with a base of water from condensation I collected on a plastic sheet hanging in my summer house, while twirling my overgrown moustache and making sure my t-shirt and corduroys are different enough in colour to make sure they cant be seen as "matching"

in seriousness, I read it while eating a potnoodle sat at my desk in work making sure not to drop any on my fat belly whilst drinking whatever coffee the cheapskate bosses bought that was on offer in ton tins from Costco this week

Hipsters don't go the match. They spend their time at Baltic market eating vegan food and drinking overly expensive organic IPA or gin. If they did go the match, it would be Tranmere or Southport because it's less intimidating / more grass roots bulsh1t.

I’m fairly certain the things holding us back are; the board and the players. I don’t see how the fan base can be blamed for lack of success. I think also the fan base is a reflection of society, all the other clubs will have “hipster” fans too

He said, munching his Avocado Toast, washed down with Qinoa infused Latte.
