Theres a kilbane one on irish radio talking about Tommy, at the end they all say what an underrated player he was, I think we only saw the best of him playing that free role infront of four workers, but he ran games for 6 months or so

He was brilliant for that period. Utterly outstanding. Suppose that's why Real Madrid signed him from us. From James's interview it's clear that Moyes, at least on the occasion referenced, tried to stifle his natural game. As you say he was a vastly under rated player at most of his clubs.

Gotta be worthy of a second look. Outstanding technique. As has been said he was just too slow to be a top class player but he had moments of pure genius in him.

Just did a bit more digging on this, he is about to be taken to court by HMRC and if he doesn't settle with them he may be declared bankrupt, that would be a sad state of affairs.

I couldnt figure out his best position...maybe just off the striker but he hardly scored...out wide but no pace.

Kind of a 'what if' player.

A yard short of being a really good player, he could beat a man but was so slow he had to try and beat him again. He was still better than Bolasie though.

This guy was deceptive, as in actually slower than he looked. Try about 10 yards short of being a really good player.

Remember seeing him out sprinted by Viduka once, brought a chuckle from me.
