New to Everton, what should I know?

History won a few trophies once upon a time. But haven't had a sniff for long time.

Recent management in the boardroom and in the dressing room has slowly destroyed the club.

But obviously as a fellow masochist none of that matters. So buckle in and enjoy the pain.

Not trying to have a go here, but I just don't get the 'I've decided to support Everton' claims by (mostly) Americans. Surely it isn't as simple as that?

Always sounds very strange to me, if new Evertonians come on here and claim they just decided from one day to another that they'll support Everton. Surely, it isn't as simpe as just going through a list of PL clubs and take your pick out of them?

There has to be a reason you are attracted to them imo. There has to be some kind of emotion towards that club you start supporting, or am I missing something ? That attraction can come from a variety of reasons, but just picking a random club to support sounds very strange to me.

Again, not trying to have a go, as I welcome all new Evertonians, just sincerely interested how 'picking a club to support' actually works

I mean if you took an interest in nfl or nba
Would you pick winners ?
It'd be a shock to the system

Which is how I became a Toffee. Up until the age of 11 I would support who ever took my fancy in the playground so one day I was Spurs the next day Forest or West Ham.

My father, a spurs fan, told me to pick a team and stick to it. I made a deal I would support the team who won the FA Cup that season for the rest of my days. All I can do us thank the stars it wasn't Watford.

To be honest, that was pretty much how it started for me. I only really started watching football when I was around 20 (I was playing loads of Pro Evolution Soccer) and I loved Tim Cahill. So I just eventually found myself wanting them to win all the time, and came out as a supporter a year or two later. Couldn't even tell you exactly when it happened

Don't think I'd ever choose a team/club because they are winners. There simpy has to be a bond with that club. Went to Australia in 2006 and visited three Aussie rules football matches during that period. Developed a soft spot for the last team I went to see, namely Essendon Bombers. Reason, they were bottom of the league, faced enormous financial difficulties and were the laughing stock of the league. So, they became my team to suport as they had a lot of similarities with my home town football club.

Definitely believe there is something in the Evertonians are chosen line though.

I'm a newly-minted PL fan and have chosen Everton as my club. What should I know about...

1. The current team?
2. Everton history?
3. Club traditions (e.g. supporters' songs, chants, etc.)
4. Anything else?
