Got to say i'm really disappointed by the thinly veiled sectarianism in this thread.
If you dislike rangers fair enough but why bring religion into it?
I'm a protestant and support both everton and rangers (in passing) because of my dad.
I've been to ibrox and watched li tie score his only ever goal for us.
There's enough crap going on without encouraging sectarian divide amongst fans, thankfully it's nowhere near as bad as it used to be.
Can honestly say I don't give a crap what god/s if any any the fan sitting next to me believes in.

It's 10 years since that Uefa Cup semi final win against Fiorentina.Rangers could have won the final that year.If it wasn't for the SFA scuppering their chances by overloading their match schedule.

I heard an interesting take on this bizarre managerial appointment on t’ radio this afternoon.

To the effect that the RS were “loaning” him out to Rangers with a view to getting some managerial experience in a high pressure situation ahead of possibly becoming manager of the RS at some date in the future.

Humiliation and rangers are familiar bed fellows in recent years. By contrast, this could be the saving of them by enabling them to attract a few quality players

If they think Glasgow is “high pressure” they have misread this badly. Glasgow is 20 times more intense, pressurised and frankly dangerous then anything south of the border.

The passive and often patronizing view of Scottish football in the media narrative does not reflect the reality, I can’t think of a worse club, at a worse time, in the worst place to get your first job. I’m going to enjoy this. Hopefully he stays beyond Xmas.

If Norway think it’s high pressure its like comparing a fire cracker to a nuclear bomb.

Thats a fair point mate, and I know I can have a bit of a pop at John Houlding!

Gerrard is from a Catholic family, and going to a club thats overwhelmingly supported by Protestants. If you've got a strong view on religion either way you're going to look a bit of an idiot (whether you support or oppose him). I can't stand the fella, irrespective of what his theological position is, or the religious base of the clubs he belongs too. I can't see the relevance of his belief at all.

I think most of us will have a good laugh at him whilst he's at Rangers. Maybe some lads who like Rangers will get behind him. I never could, but good luck to them.

Neither Merseyside club has any religious connections apart from St. Domingo being Welsh Methodist (neither Protestant nor Catholic). For outsiders to try to project that on Merseyside simply because that’s what happens elsewhere is foolish and unnecessary. We simply don’t do that here eh?

I was raised Protestant. I say raised, that means I was dragged along to church by the school now and again. That's about as far as it goes.

I even wore a half and half bobble hat in Rotterdam. Everton and Celtic no less. It just looked better than the rangers/Everton combo.

All my dad’s side of the family were in the Orange Lodge (until my grandad gave it up due to not liking the whole thing) and were/are all blues.

Simple fact it, there’s no religious connections for either team like there is in Glasgow.

If you pick your football team based on religious bigotry then you’re deffo not winning at life.

Yep. I had family in the lodge. We used to go watch the marches as kid, catholic mates and all. Nobody was aware of the relevance, it just looked boss watching the band. The innocence of youth I suppose.

Now I'm older, I still don't get it.

No idea how this gimp and giggs can get decent jobs for doing naff all. Gerrard never had a brain as a player so I can never see him making a good manager, but we all know he'll be RS boss one day, I can't wait tbh, it'll be a car crash. Just like he was a liability in costing them the title and in his farewell appearance where they were 5-0 to Stoke at half time, he'll be the same as a manager. He's not exactly done anything of note as youth manager except lose to us.
