2017/18 Nikola Vlasic

It's far too much to ask obviously for Sam to experiment slightly with the next two games essentially dead rubbers, but I'd love for Vlasic to be given a crack just behind Tosun. Bolasie and Walcott can provide width, with two of Gueye/Davies/Sneids/Rooney in the middle.

If after 60, or even 45 minutes it's not working, he can revert to his status quo, but surely the coaching staff can see they have an opportunity to try a couple of things in the next fortnight. That is, if indeed Sam is building for next season n'all.

..I agree, indeed I think he could’ve been doing this for the last month or so.

.... And I thought yesterday Vlasic was competent enough, but showed he's better suited centrally.

I don’t think he is a “wide man” per se, but with the way we play we need the wide players to come inside and get in the box to support the Striker, because they don’t get much support from the midfield 3, plus we have Baines and Coleman to get wide and forward

For me, if you're going to play people out wide then they need to be wingers, comfortable hugging the touchline. Simple as that really.

Having players who prefer playing centrally but are stuck out wide is a waste of time.. swerve this 'flexibility' crap.

Agree
I can still remember a few great teams of the 70/80/90 that played 2 out and out wingers that hugged the touchlines
Leeds of the 70s , Manure under Docherty and Ferguson

the game is and has for the last twenty years been littered with top class wide men who don't hug the touchline

Gueye and Schneiderlin in the middle with Vlasic just ahead given the freedom to support Tosun with Walcott and Lookman out wide. Klaassen coming in at times too.

This is what we should have been seeing for the 2nd half of the season. Instead we’ve had to watch a clapped out Rooney chasing shadows, Davies run around like a headless chicken and Bolasie constantly trick himself into giving the ball away.

There has been zero development in anything this season. The only bright things have been Pickford and Coleman’s return.
