Would you sell yak?

People say that all the time, the usual skinny numpties who are shocked that Yak actually grew a pair of shoulders at some point in his life. Yakubu is blessed with the build of a bodybuilder, that's not his fault. And he hasn't been back long, he had extra time off because of the world cup, he was injured against Everton Chile and Norwich.

He looks no different to the Yakubu of the 07-08 season.

Don't make him get the guns out...

How has he 'lost his edge'? I think Yakubu needs to regain his confidence and match sharpness but his injury hasn't effected any area of his game. He isn't any slower than he was during the 07-08 season and he's never relied on pace anyway. He's an intelligent footballer with good physical strength, that hasn't changed.

And he did some decent things when he came on today, held the ball up and made one excellent pass to Baines towards the end of the game. But Neiler's right, it all comes down to how he responds to not being an automatic starter, there's competition now, he's got to stand up and be counted. If he does that then we'll have some serious competition upfront, Yakubu is and always has been a quality player.

As always, a voice of reason.

There's a reason he hasn't been sharp. He snapped his Achilles in two. I guess a lot of folks on here think that's a run of the mill injury and he should have been back up to speed last year.

Not a chance.

Yak hasn't lost anything at all except a year to injury. Once he gets back up and running, he'll be fine. I'm past the point of being amazed by Evertonians who have such short memories.

If he gets back up and running. Being out for a year is a long time and he hasn't looked the same player since (yet: admittedly it's only been six months or so). He wouldn't be the first player to not ever recover from a major injury, especially at his age.

There's no room to be sentimental in football, if our coaching staff thinks he won't get over that injury or that he's just generally on the decline they should get rid. They haven't yet which presumably means they don't think that but they haven't been giving him much game time either. And if we get a big offer for someone in his late twenties who we see mainly as a subsitute then we have to consider it.

That's a good point.

Certainly Moyes wouldn't keep him around if he didn't think he could still do a job for us, especially as we could use the funds. Obviously Moyes still rates him and what he can do.

Putting aside the Donovan/Yak debates (I think dead horse officially beaten).

And, for argument's sake, let's assume he's generally speaking late twenties. No need to harp on this further for purposes of my question.

Given the horrendous economic climate, is it possible 8-10 mil could buy significantly higher quality STRIKER (note: let's focus on replacement forward only for now) than in years past? It just seems as though there are so many clubs willing to make cut price deals, offload wages, etc. Combined w/ Moyes' ability to spot talent, am I the only one who could see us realistically finding something out there?

Ozil is reportedly moving for this range ffs. You're telling me Moyes couldn't steal a quality striker from a club in financial trouble, maybe one which gets bounced from CL/Europa early on?

How about I start by dropping a completely unfounded name: Diogo

Olympiacos just got bounced, he got suspended for punching a goalkeeper (or something?), coming off a disappointong season, still only 23. Just the type of player Moyes could take & turn around into a world beater.

Ok, that's all I've got. Anybody else thinking we could stretch that money further this year? Not saying I want to unload Yak, just curious what some feel our options may truly be. Besides Donovan.

Suppose it's been a while since I've waded in to a Yak thread, sorry for the broken record but nowt has changed for me.

The Yak's record both with us and with other Premership teams means the man deserves to have the opportunity to show he's fully come back from his career threatening injury. Before we think about flogging him for a few million quid, remember he is arguably our best proven striker for our most effective system of play when fit and on form.

Then remember this face

For shame!

Yak gets the chance to compete for his place.

Not sure selling the yak would be the way forward if we were to sell i much rather we negotiate to replace him whilst trying to trash out a price with the club that wants to take him off our hands in other words a striker for a striker and i would like them to look to Europe when replacing some good bargains to be had if you do your home home work and put in the time watching players
