Would you sell yak?

I know alot of people think the yak will start banging the goals in again, but I seriously think he's lost the magic with us and he needs a fresh start elsewhere. Saha and Beckford look sharp and threatening, we can afford to cash in on him now.

How has he 'lost his edge'? I think Yakubu needs to regain his confidence and match sharpness but his injury hasn't effected any area of his game. He isn't any slower than he was during the 07-08 season and he's never relied on pace anyway. He's an intelligent footballer with good physical strength, that hasn't changed.

And he did some decent things when he came on today, held the ball up and made one excellent pass to Baines towards the end of the game. But Neiler's right, it all comes down to how he responds to not being an automatic starter, there's competition now, he's got to stand up and be counted. If he does that then we'll have some serious competition upfront, Yakubu is and always has been a quality player.

Thanks, for a moment I was starting to think it was maybe just me.

I wouldn't sell him this close to the start of the season. Having said that, if someone was prepared to pay exceptional money for him (say £12m+) in January and it looked like Beckford was capable of stepping up, I would consider it. Yak's an important player for us, but I do not think he is irreplaceable and someone like Bent would be equally capable.

He hasn't shown anything other than good hold-up play for the past year, I think Saha and Beckford both look more likely to score when they play, I think the time is right to gamble on profiting on the lad to bring Donovan in

Is that because you have thought about it? There's not a blue alive who hasn't at some point in their life wished they were a Liverpool fan.
omfg, are you taking the piss? there's been plenty of times i've got down on one knee and thanked god i'm not a liverpool fan.

I doubt we'd profit on him at the moment, and I think we'd be daft to sell him, too. We lack bite in the last 3rd as it is and are you really gonna tell me you're prepared to rely on Saha, Vaughan and an as yet unproven Beckford?

If Beckford is doing the business come January then maybe, if someone made the right offer, but certianly not now.

I just think Yak needs the right motivation. Whether or not he can find it at Everton is another question.

He only started sixteen games to be fair to him, and that was over the course of a season, it wasn't like he was given a proper run of games to get his sharpness back. He was in and out, basically covering and playing in 'not so important' games.

And you underrate how important hold up play is. And it's not just hold up play, it's movement, intelligence and creativity. Yakubu, on his day, has the ability to "make us play" from an advanced position. A poacher, for example, could score 20 goals a season yet not benefit the team at all, he might struggle to make the ball stick and we are vulnerable because of this.

Yakubu needs to regain some confidence, no question about it, but his record does speak for itself, he has proven time and time again that he has the ability to score goals.

I agree hold-up play is very important but, the reason I undermined his hold-up play is because Saha can do the same thing along with beating a player and the early signs from Beckford in that area are promising, i'm not begging for him to be sold I just think it could benefit our squad, I won't be upset at all if he's still here after the 31st of August

It's the same as Mikel really, we wouldn't get anyone in to replace him that was anywhere near as good, so it's pretty pointless.
