The Best and Worst of the derby!

Nothing will ever top the 86 final, to have handed them the double the way we did, very nearly finished me as an Evertonian! Cried like a baby all the way back, horrible that was. I actually got sacked a week later because i snotted one of the 'never been to a match, but im a mad red' tosspots at work. Just couldn't take any more of the stick, so i introduced my forehead to his nose and that was it! Like i say, very close to binning Everton after that!

getting the sack was unfair, you had good reason....

The wembley semi the other year was awful.

I only really remember us winning 4 derbies I think, probably the gosling one was the best out of the four.

They’ve worn me down over the years derby’s . I used love derby week . Now I just dread it . It kills me a bit more each time knowing that we just roll over for the fckers. I’ll still be there on Sunday mind , just in case that 1% chance of us sneaking a win happens I’d hate to miss it .

It probably sounds 'bitter blue', but a memorable one for me was the year Liverpool has equalled Leeds United record unbeaten run and needed to avoid defeat just once more to set a new record. Goodison Park, March 1988. Everton 1 Liverpool O. How we laughed.
In one of those quirks that football throws up, the goal was scored by Wayne Clarke, whose brother had been in the Leeds team that set the original record.

As for worst, I can't even go there. They're all the worst.

Brian Labones testimonial
We won
I was very young I was going mad jumping up and down with my late dad (last time he seen us beat them )

Or when Alan harper equalised I was behind the rs dug out punching that glass

Worse ....Glen effin healy or the 4-0 or the slippy g one or those semi finals or those finals....

Best:
84 Sharp - brother got smacked for celebrating (typical RS, give it out but cannot take it back)
94 Royle 1st game
95 Kanchelskis (one of my best weekends ever, hense my fondness for this game).

Worst:
86 final. Not only did they steal the double off us they had also robbed us of the European cup that season too. The ****s

2012 Semi. Stupid Distin back pass.

2001 McCallister cheat. Never been more angry than that day. Horrible day and witnessed lots of trouble after the game too.

I don't think that result was unexpected.

We were going well at the time, either top or very near the top of the league and had yet to lose a game that season :)

Yes, we hadn't beaten them for in seven years but nor had they beaten us to often during that run....there were a heck of a lot of draws in the 70s.

And the fatalism regarding the derby, so prevalent these days, had not taken root back then.
It had taken root with me alright, saw almost all of them live. Many crazy ref. decisions in that era most in their favour of course which denied us victory.I remember Mick Lyons climbing head and shoulders above their defence at Goodison early seventies, buried the header of course disallowed still don't know why. Then the Facup semi(Brian Hamilton)worst referee decision I have ever seen, heart breaker.Little did I know there was volumes of similar episodes to comeWorst for me 86 final, happiest half time interval of my life ah well!

..I think it was at the end of the ‘85 title winning season and we beat them 1-0 at Goodison. The title was already ours and the game was dreadful but it has always stuck in mind because it was role reversal. We were superior to them in every way, even though the likes of Rob Wakenshaw might have been playing. I think John Wark missed a penalty in the Park End that just seemed inevitable.

I watched the Derby’s from the early 60’s but I don’t think I ever felt as bad as when Gary McAllister scored that late 40 yard free kick, and i was at the Brian Hamilton disallowed goal

I always blame Idn rotten Tal for that.

He was in possession at the edge of their box very late in the game....gave the ball to one of their players then chased after him.

He could have taken him down at any stage but instead waited until the bugger was well into our half and in shooting range
