David Unsworth - Temporary Manager

Our defence is shocking at the minute and unsworths first opportunity to have a full week with the players (if hes our manager) is january.
Any manager would find it difficult to coach players into not being crap when they dont have the time to do it.
Allardyce took 8 games last season before they started they started clicking and the 7th game they got beat 4-0 by sunderland!
I really dont think its necessarily doom and gloom if unsworth gets the role for longer. Who knows though, we may continue to be crap only time will tell.

Hes had almost 5 weeks mate???????

Now im not saying thats a massive amount of time, but its certainly more than a week.

We were a team that couldn't score and leaked goals for fun. Under Unsworth we conceed 2 per game but have finally found a cutting edge in Oumar.
Oumar's out for the next 3 so surely these will decide Unsworths fate? If we go back to being impotent and continue to be atrocious defensively even sentimentalist BK will begin to doubt and we could find ourselves on the phone and on our knees to Sam. If we continue to get good results then perhaps Moshiri will start to think Unsworth until summer may be acceptable.

Posted this in the manager thread but probably more relevant here:

Just another point on Unsworth staying on that I haven’t seen mentioned at all and that is Joe Royle being involved in this set up.

I have a very long memory like some on here and people will remember Royles managerial time at the club here which was a period of pride, hope and success.

For me he is probably one of the most understated, understated and unacknowledged managers in England over the past 30 years. He is part of this set up, we are talking about the man, who was born in the shadow of a Goodison, who played and starred for Everton as a teenager, won trophies here, performed miracles at Oldham as a manager, the man who won our last major trophy and rebuilt the club from utter ash, the man who really saved Manchester City football club.

Joe Royle is a living breathing Everton legend both as a player and manager and not by profile but by success at this club.

If your asking me to I want a Dyche or a Allardyce over an Unsworth/Royle ticket, really it’s not even a contest.

When we talk about a managers that get Everton, we have a living legend and probably the biggest and most successful living Evertonian, involved in this set up.

That’s why I’m backing Unsworth, do not underestimate Joe Royle, his talent and his influence, I back him wholly

At your age , you should know that one week and five weeks are exactly the same. I was talking to a man today who told me that the last time he saw me was when we both worked in Liverpool Museum 12 years ago ....Reality tells me it was 30 years ago.......Time flies

If Silva ain’t coming then I think it best we end the uncertainty right now and give Unsie the job for the duration of the season......barring any nosedive between now and the New Year.

I for one cannot stomach the thought of yet another protracted saga with this Ralf fellow only for it to end in farce again.

Naming Unsie as caretaker until May, beyond May if it works well, will calm the waters a bit.

David needs certainty, the players need certainty, the fans need it too.

Unsy is there because ATM we are struggling to get the right full time manager, it's a blow to lose Niassie scanderlous when you see other players dive with no one that near them - we have DCL, and Sandro both under 23 forwards and an aging Wayne Rooney - are other managers looking at our squad , and not fancying the job poor centre aging centre backs - no replacement left back?
We don't want a manager who is only here for money, and at least Unsy short period is not after that!

I doubt he would be given it long term - I agree with your sentiments, and would hope he could put a winning run together with big Joe my hero helping him, but Mosh will go for a name that's my point!

I think we should give him 2 more premier league games then see how many points we have.

Weve got 4 pts from the last 2 games, if we can get 3 or 4 from the next two id let him continue...while still sounding out others.

Big sam wanted a long term deal and an extra 5 backroom staff with Royle and Unsworth gone - so no we will not go back on our knees to Mr Corruption who under England should have been banned from management for life!!

Unsy will have another 2 games at least I'd say, especially if Silva is who we really are chasing as the main target. Doubt we'll hear anything on the manager front til next week now unless something comes out of nowhere tonight or tomorrow but can't see it.
