2017/18 Davy Klaassen

..I wondered if Baines might have a like minded left side partner in Wayne Rooney but that failed miserably against Watford because Rooney simply didn’t have the legs to match the full back on that side. It left us vulnerable. Perhaps Klaassen is worth a try out there to give Baines some protection and also provide link play.

For one - literally everyone says he's a failure.

Odd how he used to do all these things back in Ajax, but now he apparently can't at all though. Maybe not the tackling, but still.

And "involvement" rings true cuz remember Bainaar? Pienaar had a total of like 5 assists over 2 seasons, but he was always playing the ball that set Baines free to get an assist, if that makes sense, and Baines had like 30 in the same timeframe...

Ah , the good old assisting the assister

Hmmm interesting choice of words that "involvement" rather than "assist" and I agree with that entirely though I am struggling to think of more than 3 and 2 of those were in one game where one was him trying to trap the ball and it bouncing off his toe in into DCL's path.

But funny we don't apply such generous terms to other players on the field too in which case perhaps Wayne and the Sig would have less of a rough time from the fans too.

Look - No-one has said he is a failure (yet) - my original objection was to him being a "class" player which he clearly isn't by any definition of the word - not even in this amazing blue-tinted, fantastical football-insight-vision some people apparently have.

As a number 10 or anywhere around the midfield he seems to have a lot of very significant disadvantages:

He cant trap the ball (thats noone elses fault)
He cant make simple passes (thats noone elses fault)
He seemingly cant read the game at all (thats noone elses fault and why he is chasing shadows)
He might see the odd magnificent pass, but he cant execute it (thats noone elses fault)
He tackles like a feather (thats noone elses fault)

So in summary, he seems incapable of getting on the ball and when he does he has done nothing with it in 99% of the cases, lets hope those "arriving late in the box" type goals start arriving .... but I think he arrives late because he is slow and just surprises everyone :D

He might turn into a Cahill-esque talismanic hard working hero, but by no definition of the word is there anything resembling class there! Come on!

Sounds to me like Noone Elses isn't a very good coach whoever he is.

think people are over egging how bad Sigurdsson has been, just off the top of my head wasn't Sigurdsson involved in a boss little one two leading up to one of the goals on Sunday ( might have been for the corner for DCL ) remember him playing a cute little ball for vlasic to score and whipped in a boss free kick against lyon for Williams, obviously not amazing for what was paid, but he HAS been getting shoehorned in the side to fit rooney in and HAS shown glimpses

he's our best number 10 ( minus barkley ) so should be played there, one of the reasons unsworth wont get the job is because he's to afraid to drop his mates ( rooney etc ) and takes the easier option leaving the new signings out

It's true though. Would you say Baines would have the amount of assists in his "golden" days if Pienaar wasn't there?

He's still struggling to get even 3 for a season since Pienaar's been gone ffs! lol

No I totally agree with it, I just remember the arguments about it at the time lol

I get annoyed when I'm playing FM and my players assist the assister and aren't recognised for it ffs

I cant agree. I think he has looked next to useless. No pace, little movement and he seems to just disappear from games. His set pieces have generally been rubbish too.

I am not writing him off or anything but for what we paid for him (not his fault I know) he needs to up his game big time. For a player costing that amount of money, in a league he is already settled in I expect him to be bossing games, not just showing some nice moments every once in a while like he has been.

Papers reckon Everton and Fenerbache have been in touch over a january deal.

By papers I mean tribal football.

Make of this what you will...
