David Unsworth - Temporary Manager

Defo the salary will flush out a high profile manager. There's no going back on the pay offered for this position now.

I said the other day (and still hope this to be the case) that the plan is to give Unsworth enough time to stabilise us but in the meantime Tuchel is in a holding pattern should things go wrong.

Some might ask whether we can keep a manager like that dangling. However, I dont see what Tuchel has to lose by being patient: he gets the job and all is well and good; he doesn't because Unsworth has us buoyant - no problems, he'll just bide his time until the next lucrative opportunity comes along.

Dave do you think there could a position of assistant manager to Tuchel which could be of benefit.

Former Everton striker Daniel Amokachi has called on the club to appoint David Unsworth as permanent manager.

Unsworth - who is the club's Under-23 manager - was placed in temporary charge on Tuesday, a day after Ronald Koeman's dismissal.

"He is somebody who is willing to die for the team," Amokachi told BBC World Service. "Once a blue, always a blue.

"I would love to see him appointed. He has all the qualities to take Everton to the next level."

Amokachi, who featured for Nigeria at the 1994 and 1998 World Cups, played with Unsworth at Everton in the 1990s and they were both part of the squad that won the FA Cup in 1995.

Unsworth made 351 appearances for the Toffees in two spells and has said that he wants the job full-time, having been placed in charge for Wednesday's League Cup fourth-round tie at Chelsea.

'Who wouldn't want the Everton job?' - Unsworth

Amokachi believes that the former defender has the qualities needed to turn Everton's fortunes around.

"There is always a first step that you take to become great," he said. "And he made that first step with the Under-23s.

"He's shown all the Evertonians he's capable of bringing the best out of football players. I was back at Goodison Park three weeks ago and I saw how respected he is by all Evertonians.

"We've seen in France, in Spain, where youth coaches came on board and did a great job. Why not Everton?

"Give him a chance. You don't need to bring somebody in and spend a fortune when you have somebody who can bring the best out of the players. Some fans want a high-profile coach but if you have somebody who can do the job, why not stick with him?"

Cuz he's not from abroad.

You don't get it, he has to learn without actually learning and just be great, but without even being the manager in the first place.

Honestly not sold on Tuchel myself really. Would love to be proven wrong, but would also love Unsworth to do more than keep us buoyant - it's not even impossible.

I'm sure that will help in making Moshiri's mind up lol

Lets not kid ourselves, if we get a high profile manager in and he does very well, he will be head-hunted by a bigger/wealthier club anyway, if he fails then he already knows the score, depends on their strength of character and belief in themselves i guess, also depends on the character of Unsworth - don't see him as being someone who'd undermine the club just to benefit himself

That's fine. A good manager comes in and improves us and moves on. He leaves behind an improved squad that's a better proposition to attract another up and coming talent.

Losing managers shouldn't mean that we fall to bits.

Just look at that tweet. 'Unsy'??? What the hell is that? None of the top clubs in the league would call their manager by some sort of cringey pet name. 'McCarthy back in action' a positive??? He's been getting pelters off supporters for the last three seasons.

So frustrating. We need professionalism at a time like this and we're getting sentimentalism. We'll carry on being a museum.
You’ve become obsessed with this “Unsy “ business. It’s hardly new, the u21/23 players have been referring to him as Unsy for years. It is who he is , part of his style and part of his success. Should young kids call him Unsy or “Boss”? Maybe , but it’s not showing disrespect as they play their hearts out for him. It possibly won’t help when he’s hauling off Rooney or Jagielka after a poor first half but he’ll have to deal with things like that whatever he’s called. It’s a club thing , outside of the club he remains David Unsworth. Personally if he’s successful I don’t care what he’s called, rather have someone like h8m than a cold no emotion Manager on the touch line , or someone who has exaggerated touch line jigs with the fans every time we win a corner.

This post from @Bungle answers you definitely Mr Loon

Don't like the idea of him myself. He'll be looking at that Bayern job, the last thing we need is another manager who sees us as a stopgap

Just can't help but think that if he was getting the Bayern job he'd have just got it when Ancelotti got das boot.

It's hard to say really, how many jobs was Klopp linked with before he the Liverpool job? Loads iirc

..he said after the game that the plan was to play McCarthy for 60 minutes and bring on a more attacking option for the last 30. At least it demonstrates a strategy.
